I've been experimenting with recon. I launch ALL planes available and at best get a detection level of 4, 5 against an airbase. I've tried doing multiple recons on a hex, no luck. I can see if it's infantry or armor, but no idea of the size or anything else.

What am I doing wrong?

Not sure if this rule change is your problem or not. The original published rules have undergone a lot of changes.

Air recon will not increase an enemy air base's detection level above 5.

Just manually choose the airbase to recon (don't need to manually pick the planes) and then do it over and over until you get a detection of 5, sometimes it takes 3+ times
