The game appears to function fully, but clicking on the RECORD button on the toolbar does nothing. How to fix? Thanks!

If you have only NI registered (not the full CMANO), recording is disabled.

I have both. Found the problem. If you delete "sample.rec", then the record button doesn't work. Thanks.
