Hi All,

I tried to start my old install of CC-TLD today (June 6) and it ran and got stuck on the black screen and
mouse cursor before the main menu.

I reinstalled and had the same results. I am running Win7 and tried it in a number of compatibility modes
(including WinXP SP2) and run as administrator with the same results.

It was running fine in the past, but now no joy.

Anyone fix a similar problem?

Varangian,

It sounds like there may be a problem playing the game intro videos on your system. When you get the black screen, try hitting ESC, spacebar, or ENTER several times. These may allow you to skip videos and get you to the game main screen if that is the problem.

Alternately, hold down the CTRL key while launching the game. This should bring up the game options dialog box before the game itself starts. Go to the 'General' panel and turn off the videos there, then hit OK. And if you're doing this step, also turn on 'windowed' mode, just as a test.

Thanks I got it to run in windowed mode.

Does the program now only work in windowed mode on a modern machine?

On Windows 8 and 10, yes. Microsoft made changes to DirectX support on Windows 8+ that no longer supports the full-screen 16 bit color mode used by older versions of Close Combat.
