Please publish your entire library for android pads devices on Google play. I rarely use a pc any longer and the Google play store is full off tower defense and endless clash of clans clones in their strategy category. Please please need some good strategy games.

Welcome! What is the reason for not using your PC? To me it's still the best gaming machine...[:)]

I think the series is called "Conflict" by a Finnish guy called Jooni Nuntien or something like it - can't check now. A whole series of WWII games with an simple UI but fairly competent AI. But as wings7 said, PC is the place to be in the end.

EwaldvonKleist -> RE: Games for android pads (6/7/2016 11:35:00 PM)

Different from most forum members, i have taken a very different approach to strategy hex games-not from boardgames but from android mobile games. So i think i have played many android hex games, but i don't care that much about tactical level or non-hex games so my list is imcomplete there. Here it is:

<<<<<<Edits: Added some games to suggested in the following post to create an overview over the androids strategy market>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Joni Nuutinen:
A finnish developer since 2011. I participated (and still do) a bit in testing his games and have played most of them (and bombarded the poor developer with endless suggestions and bug reports [:D] )
He offers a variety of hex games based on the same engine, from operation Barbarossa over D-Day, Stalingrad to the Italy Campaign, the US civil war and also some lesser known battles like the finnish winter war. Units have a number of hitpoints which can be regained through rear area rest, some campaigns contain production elements, encircling is very important in all campaigns and some also have special game rules (like added fuel trucks for Rommel in Africa Campaign). Currently, there is an editor under developement but it is not yet sure when/whether the final version is released. For every game a free demo is offered. It has to be highlighted that that Joni Nuutinen is in close contact with the community and is supporting even his oldest games with updates. Around 20 campaigns at the moment i estimate, from 22*27 hexes to 80*80 hexes campaigns.
Developer Play Store page:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=Joni+Nuutinen&hl=de
Developer Facebook/Google Plus Page:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Conflicts-A-Strategy-Game-Series-for-Android/161895650530167
https://plus.google.com/u/0/+Conflict-series/posts

His first campaign, still my favourite, Operation Barbarossa:

D-Day:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cloudworth.dday_demo&hl=de

His AI is for the limited ressources of mobile devices (he tries to support older ones too) very fine and will give you a challenge (you can always adjust difficulty). When you are more experienced, you will learn to outmaneuver it but you will hardly encounter a game breaking failure.
All in all very recommended.

Victor Reijkerz/Slitherine:
Developer for sure knwon to most forum users. Some years ago he made two games for android: Small general and Small General: Eastern front.
Small general is fun to play. Game Mechanics are not that sophisticated and its sometimes how i imagine a board game, but still fun.
Eastern front version uses similiar mechanics, but it fails to generate WW2 eastern front feeling, often more like WW1.
Common to both games is the energy consuming AI which will ensure you cannot play the games for long without recharging. AI works in Small General but often fails hard in the bigger Eastern front. Scenarios are often unbalanced in Eastern front.
Try out small general Demo, full game can be recommended too, Eastern front is fun to play too if you play against yourself and don't need the Eastern front feeling.

Hunted Cow Studios:
They offer a russian front game. It has full 3D graphics and some eye candy, but is expensive (9 Euro/Dollars i think) and the mechanics are a total failure (strange ZOC rules, strange encirclement rules, often only a grind and not a blitzkrieg etc.). AI is bad.
Hands off from this game unless you have played everything else and are super bored!

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.huntedcow.russianfront&hl=de

DK Simulations:
Offer some very different games: Some from napoleonic time, some from WW2. Have only played WW2 so far, all board game like.
German Eagle vs. Russian bear:
Small eastern front game. Simple mechanics and graphics. Nothing special, but the animations are very smooth, i often play it only because it is so satisfying to see the counters move. AI not good, but ok. Give it a try, its cheap.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dk.eaglebear&hl=de

Korsun Pocket&Poland and France (K and P are free):
More complex, but still similiar to a boardgame. AI is fine, mechanics are nothing special but good. Have some minor bugs but you can work around this and its no game breaker.
Korsun:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dk.k44&hl=de
Poland: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dk.p39&hl=de

Also has some other small games similiar or different to the two described engines.

Nico Pavel:

And last but not least for the Panzer General fans (defenitely not my genre, i prefer to command corps and armies over single tanks):
Open Panzer, excellent freeware also availaible for browser and PC. Can't write that much about it, may the Panzer General fans judge this game but i am sure its very good if you like this kind of hex games.

John Tiller:
Some most likely very good tactical level games. Not my genre too but definitely try them out.

Wars and Battles:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.battlefactory.warsandbattles&hl=de

Hero Craft:
Province, not hex based IGUGO game. Not my kind of game because nothing like supply mechanics so it is a grind the enemy down game all the time but others will maybe like it (well, maybe nobody here will like it because it is too simple and here everything with a manual with less than 100sides is considered to be a game for children but okay )

I hope i was able to help you.

Hertston -> RE: Games for android pads (6/7/2016 11:45:23 PM)

Not the best platform, as has been said, despite some more than capable devices. That said, there is some reasonable stuff out there like Atlantic Fleet, Frozen Synapse and Door Kickers. John Tiller's put a lot of his titles out on Android as well, although for some reason they are cut-down versions of the PC games. I use my Android tablet mostly for card and board games, tbh, the Android versions usually being rather better than the Windows ones.

EwaldvonKleist -> RE: Games for android pads (6/8/2016 12:02:17 AM)

Oh yes, i completely forgot John Tiller! Not my genre as already said (i prefe to be field marshal over being an low rank officer :-) ) but they are for sure good.

Here we have probably a conflict of generations: I have grown up with smartphones. I agree that you cannot realize a monster Grigsby games on Android phones, but especially Joni Nuutines games can be very adddictive and are very good for the limited ressources.
Both environments, user concepts and wargame approaches have their justification and find their fans.

Edit: Atlantic fleet is a good tip, with some more interest in naval warfare i would for sure like this game.

EwaldvonKleist -> RE: Games for android pads (6/8/2016 2:09:59 PM)

I forgot another game:

Hero Craft:
Province, not hex based IGUGO game. Not my kind of game because nothing like supply mechanics so it is a grind the enemy down game all the time but others will maybe like it (well, maybe nobody here will like it because it is too simple and here everything with a manual with less than 100sides is considered to be a game for children but okay[:)] )

MrsWargamer -> RE: Games for android pads (6/8/2016 2:23:23 PM)

There's always a glitch.

PC means better screens but it means play it here or not at all. Desktop = fixed location.

Tablet is play anywhere, but too many games ruin it by forcing you to be online. No internet means no game.

There are a few good war games on the tablet for Android, but most war games are unforgiving of a 7in screen. I tend to get screwed up vision for focal range if I stare at a small screen too long. I can run any war game known to us on my HP slate running Windows 8.1, but the screen size is what it is. Playing Battle Academy on a 7in screen is just not ideal. Ok if at the cottage and the outdoors is not thrilling due to weather that day.

I have found the happy medium seems to be my laptop for war games worth the mention. I can put my laptop anywhere. A 15in screen is doable and I wouldn't be playing a real war game sitting on a bus or standing in a ticket line.

I tend to only use my tablet for watching videos in a Tim Horton's or for a notepad, or playing a Gem game. Currently like my Sailor Moon gem game.

It looks pretty entertaining, simple can be good! [:)]

DonCzirr -> RE: Games for android pads (6/8/2016 5:19:59 PM)

On Android - the Tiller games - Panzer Campaigns, Modern Campaigns and Civil War are the best ...

Wars and battles - Normandy and October War are actual war games - not as good as JTS and Matrix - but ok and they have Kharkov coming out soon

Some of the David Kershaw games are ok - I have a game about Korea going on right now ..

I have not really warmed up to the Joni Conflict games as of yet - just not thrilling me.

The guy who made Decisive Campaigns has - Small General Eastern Front - game is on the simple side but competently created.

1939 Wargame - Poland is not bad - along with the Roman games that same company makes ...

If you like sci-fi stuff - go for Trese Brothers games

Legion from Slitherine is also good for 4x

Looking forward to BA2 from Slitherine. I have it on the iPAD and it works fine for me.

rocketman71 -> RE: Games for android pads (6/8/2016 9:45:11 PM)

Also, for the "Conflict" series there are demos for all releases. Good way to try it out. There is a basic engine for all iterations, but with some uique stuff for that setting. So the demos are also a good way of trying out the different variants.

Wars and Battles look interesting, maybe i will give it a try, thx for the tip.
I seriously cannot understand how you can prefer the Victor Reijkerz Small General Eastern front (however this guy is spelled) games over Nuutinens. Just some major weaknesses of Small General:
-all Scenarios (Leningrad, Barbarossa, Typhoon, Case Blue) are unbalanced and far away from history. When you play yourself or another human opponent: Leningrad: soviet victory Moscow: German Victory, rarely a draw, Case Blue: Always German Victory, Barbarossa: German Victory or draw
-AI has major flaws. It often leaves its elite Panzer Divisions in the rear area in the early stages of operation Barbarossa, does not react at encirlement attempts, fails to take Riga, Kiev, Odessa, Minsk in 1941 as germans etc. It needs a lot of time and soacks up your energy but still doesn not work good....
-units only have 2HPs
-battle results often random or indecisive
This two points mean that the game depends a lot of RNG and this in smaller scenarios has a major impact (if you are unlucky it can happen that your elite panzers do not break through russian shocked infrantry on turn one of operation barbarossa...
I could easily name more flaws.
Its can still be fun to play and i never regretted buying it but Nuutinens games are far better. The graphics have improved a lot over his first games in 2011 and are fine now. AI is fast and will give you a challenge. Encirclements of entire army groups like in Small General Eastern front will be very rare. Game rules are not as binary like in Victors Mobile games. His GUIs are quite smart and intuitive too.

rocketman71 -> RE: Games for android pads (6/8/2016 10:36:17 PM)

I have Wars and Battles for iOS with Normandy module. It is awesome looking but bug riddled and unplayable (and no support). Development has been dormant with no activity in the forum, but rumour has it that they are reworking the platform. So I would wait with that.

EwaldvonKleist -> RE: Games for android pads (6/8/2016 11:08:26 PM)

Thx for the warning. I was close to buying it...

Whoa ... Easy does it there Tex ....

Why do some folks love DC Barbarossa and others dismiss it?

Same for WitE ....

There are card carry, ASL, SPI veteran grognards on both sides of those opinions ..

There's a number of things that go into whether folks games or not ... overall impact and enjoyment are the keys here.

With me - I don't like the "feel" or UI of the Joni games. Go ahead and dispute that =)

I do like the feel of Small General - make your case against that ...

I realize that Small General is flawed but for a quick little wargame on Android - I like it ...

EwaldvonKleist -> RE: Games for android pads (6/9/2016 4:30:38 PM)

I did explain with mathematical precision why you can not like Small General more than Nuutinens games. Nothing can cope with this scientific method to judge whether a game is good or not. So i ask you with all respect to adjust your taste to the results of my examination.

Well, i should really stop this trashtalk [:)]
Tastes are different, may it be music, games, food or whatever, and that is good because it results in diversity. So thanks for your different taste when it comes to games :-)

But i still disagree with this line of you:
quote:

The guy who made Decisive Campaigns has - Small General Eastern Front - game is on the simple side but competently created.

Whether an game is professional made is in my opinion something you can discuss about (different from taste). And i gave multiple reasons why i think Nuutinens games are made more "professional", of course due to many many iterations over the years while Reijkerz had only "one shot" because he moved back to PC games after the releases.
Please don't take personal offence in any way, its no attack on you as a person, just a minor disagreement! (maybe i am paranoid but i have seen many threads to get closed because somebody got upset).

EwaldvonKleist -> RE: Games for android pads (6/15/2016 11:37:14 PM)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=AndroidWargames.com
Another series of wargames i forgot to mention. I think they still have some flaws (but do not crash) but give it a try.

What is with the thread starter?????? Only one post, not even a "thx for the tips" to the many forum members who suggested games? Strange.
