Two quick comments. First, you are using the wrong American flag. The 50-star flag has its stars arranged in a checkerboard, and is clearly distinguishable from the 48-star flag that was in use during most of the century which has its stars in straight files and columns. The 50-star flag is the modern flag that has been in use since the 1960's: fine for a game about the Vietnam War, but wrong for any earlier period in the twentieth century (like Korea, WW I or WW II). Second, the map of Southern Italy and Sicily is unfortunate and really needs to be redrawn. While it is true that allowances have to be made for translating those particular landmasses to a hex field, my sense is that the mistake your cartographer made was to try to fit the drawing of the coastlines to which hexes were land and which were sea, rather than the other way around. Apulia and Calabria don't look like that, and Sicily doesn't either.
