Nov 43 and 90 percent of front line Sov units are Guards Corps etc. No Brown to be seen. Opponent did get 125% in everything given my experience but I didn't think this would affect Guards production. Standard severe blizzard but the red plague did not begin until 1942.

If the Soviet does well, it is possible there are a lot of depleted units in the rear. This allows more Guards units. Also if a lot of cavalry corps survive, they can all become guards. And in one of my games, I am trying to get airborne brigades promoted to guards those are also not limited.

Is this server game or pbem? Could you provide a save? Maybe your opponent can share his guard percentages.
