Panther Bait -> Problems with Reinstall (6/23/2016 5:08:15 AM)

I got a new laptop (old one died) and reinstalled the CS series with the 2.02 patch.

New laptop has Win10 64 bit, old one had Win8.1-64

The launcher works fine, but all 3 of the CS components (West Front, East Front, Rising Sun) fail to load. The specific message is "XXXXXXX.exe has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Any thoughts on what to try to get this working? I've tried adjusting the compatibility settings (tried Win 7 and Win 8) as well as running it as an administrator. Doesn't seem to make any difference.

ok lets take a look,

How to get a DxDiag report file:

1. Click on "START" (on Windows 8 press “Windows key” and the “R” key at the same time)
2. Click "run" (skip this step on Windows 8 )
3. Type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. Check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. Click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments (zip) rather than pasted into the body of the post.

add the exe of the game to your Anti Virus and firewall program, to make sure check the logs of these to see if it was one if any of them was to blame.

That usually means a 3rd party program, like an Internet security programs, is or could be interfering with the game or update installation.

run the game from a admin account and use full admin permissions.

please make sure all game pre requisite are installed with the game, even if you think or fully know there are already installed, it will only over write, and it may be that you have a older or newer version of these where as the game in question may need a certain version.

please make sure you are running the latest game version and have up to date drivers installed on your pc,

If you have the original version. So you'll need to update it from the Internet.

for me those in bold are the ones to double check but without more information it's only guess work
Please note that you'll only need the last update, as the updates are comprehensive. (not needed with steam)

Panther Bait -> RE: Problems with Reinstall (6/25/2016 4:02:36 AM)

Tried the following with no success:

Set compatibility to WinXP (3rd ed) and "run as admin"
Confirmed that I am using latest version (using "Update" on the launcher)
Added file to Norton accepted list
To the degree that I am aware of them, I have confirmed that program requirements are up to date

Not sure how to attach a message directly here, so I have sent a PM to you Zakblood

Did you attempt to make shortcuts to each of the game executables, or just launch from each within the directory(s)?

Panther Bait -> RE: Problems with Reinstall (6/26/2016 2:37:50 AM)

I had previously tried launching from the launcher program and directly accessing the applications from the directories. I tried a shortcut tonight with no change in behavior.

I'll probably try a full reinstall tomorrow with norton shut down.

What do the log files say, in the /logs folder? Please post the last 20 lines or so of each log file here immediately after the crash or failure to launch. The latter is important, as each restart begins the log file anew.

Panther Bait -> RE: Problems with Reinstall (7/5/2016 8:11:54 PM)

Not sure what happened, but CS started working all of a sudden. I am assuming it had something to do with a mega-update of Win 10 that occurred. Interestingly, I had been concentrating on Rising Sun (have a game ongoing there), but even East/West Front started working (without admin privileges and WinXP compatibility).

Regardless, thank you all for the help. It was appreciated.

Mike
