Chuik0v -> Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 8:29:56 PM)

Hi Guys,

Using win 10 Pro 64bits.
Running in User mode - non Admin.

I bought WITE on Steam yesterday, and installed it:

* as User account
- Via Steam start game, prompts for the Admin password -> game starts -> Play => Fatal Error Code#770
- Start Steam as administrator , start game, prompts for the Admin password -> game starts -> Play => Fatal Error Code#770
- Start
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Gary Grigsby's War in the East\WarInTheEast.exe
as Administartor, prompts for the Admin password -> game starts -> Play => Fatal Error Code#770

* as Admin account
- Log in as Administrator
- Via Steam start game, -> game starts -> Play => Fatal Error Code#770
- Start
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Gary Grigsby's War in the East\WarInTheEast.exe
-> game starts -> Play => Fatal Error Code#770

so i am quite clueless what to do now, as the 'run as administrator' work-around seems no to work.
i rebooted the system and tried the above again, no luck.

Am i missing a license - if i bought this from Steam ?

Thanks for any help, hoping to play soon ...

lets take a look and see what maybe the issue,

Verify Integrity of Game Cache
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

How to get a DxDiag report file:

1. Click on "START" (on Windows 8 press “Windows key” and the “R” key at the same time)
2. Click "run" (skip this step on Windows 8 )
3. Type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. Check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. Click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments (zip) rather than pasted into the body of the post.

add the exe of the game to your Anti Virus and firewall program, to make sure check the logs of these to see if it was one if any of them was to blame.

That usually means a 3rd party program, like an Internet security programs, is or could be interfering with the game or update installation.

run the game from a admin account and use full admin permissions.

please make sure all game pre requisite are installed with the game, even if you think or fully know there are already installed, it will only over write, and it may be that you have a older or newer version of these where as the game in question may need a certain version.

please make sure you are running the latest game version and have up to date drivers installed on your pc,

If you have the original version. So you'll need to update it from the Internet.
Please note that you'll only need the last update, as the updates are comprehensive. (not needed with steam)

thx for your quick response.

dxdiags attached.

morvael -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 8:37:55 PM)

Add new steam folder outside program Files and reinstall game there. I also hope steam installs proper directx, because without it, the game does not run on Windows 10 clean install.

Chuik0v -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 8:45:21 PM)

thx for pointer.
will try that now.

zakblood -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 8:48:40 PM)

there's nothing game related that points to anything in the report, drivers are upto date and all seems ok there report wise, so next is what is your anti virus?

no need to tell me, just have you checked the logs to see if it has stopped anything game related from running?

and check out the redist folder in your game folder and run the directx setup file from there as directed above to double check files called DXSETUP, and game needs it, no matter what version of directx is already pre installed on the pc.

good luck

Chuik0v -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 8:51:38 PM)

now installed in

C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Gary Grigsby's War in the East

but still same issues.

Chuik0v -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 8:57:44 PM)

running dxsetup in
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Gary Grigsby's War in the East\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010

did the trick.

installing it out of Program files (x86) also lets it run without admin prompt.

awsome, thanks for your quick responses.

morvael -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 8:59:30 PM)

Ok, it can be manually installed via downloading https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

I think steam setup should contain the step installing dx, without it game does not run on win 10 (unless other game installed it first).

Chuik0v -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 9:02:46 PM)

posted these steps to steam forum

Helpless -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 9:19:41 PM)

Look like steam api fails to init. Either steam api is not running (which seems to be not a case) or steam security check is failing.

Do you have steam_appid.txt file in the game folder?

Chuik0v -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 9:41:53 PM)

>> Do you have steam_appid.txt file in the game folder?

yes it is present.
forum rules do not allow me to past content , but it seems a valid appid

Chuik0v -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 9:49:31 PM)

three-seven-zero-five-four-zero

Helpless -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 10:00:10 PM)

Do you have other Steam games? Do they run properly?

It looks like Steam authentication error. Answer could be somewhere in the \Steam\logs folder.

Chuik0v -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 10:09:41 PM)

the forum rules do not allow me to post snipets of content_log.txt

Chuik0v -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 10:12:21 PM)

content_log.txt

Chuik0v -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 10:17:25 PM)

i have ~160 steam games with no issue

Helpless -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 10:26:04 PM)

I suggest to run game integrity check (right click on the game -> properties -> local files -> verify integrity of the game cache) first and try again.

If it fails, contact matrix support (support@matrixgames.com) so the could look at the steam logs. Hopefully they have more knowledge on Steam issues as it doesn't look related to the game itself.

Chuik0v -> RE: Fatal Error Code#770 (7/4/2016 10:32:10 PM)

The game is running now for me, outside Steam.
(due to the above mentioned steps - install outside program files, run dxsetup)

Inside steam, it still is #770

hope you can improve the steam setup.
regards,
Chuik0v
