Riitaoja2 -> Changing SPWAW animation speed with DXWnd (7/12/2016 3:19:49 PM)

In SPWAW the animations for water and burning hexes is running quite slow. Much slower than what it used to be in the original DOS games.

So I found out a handy option in DxWnd that one can use to adjust this animation speed.
You can change the speed by adjusting the "Time Stretching" option in the Timing tab of DxWnd.

For example setting the time stretch to x8 results in a much smoother animation that just looks nicer (in my oppinion) than the default slide show speed that the game has. Ofcourse one can experiment with different values to find one that looks best.

Edit: I did some comparing of the Steel Panthers 2 animation speeds to SPWAW and I think a x4 time stretch value in Dxwnd might give the closest match to the old DOS games animation speeds.

Here is an animated gif showing the default animation speed of SPWAW.

And here is the same animation with about 6x speed.

Edit: I had to remove some frames of the animation to fit the attachement size limit. So it will look slightly better in game.

The animation for swamp terrain was missing in SPWAW. I'm not sure if it is missing from all versions of the game but attached are edited SHP files that restore the animation.

You need to change the file extension from .txt to .zip and then extract it to the games \SHP -directory. Remember backups!

Hmm I made interesting observation: during artillery strike, first volley comes some seconds slower than next which come as "normally"[;)]... Sometimes it's fixed with BES options (when I just remember to use it[:'(]). Anyway, no big thing. I use artillery quite seldom (though sometimes more if it's attacking phase going on).
