Bryansk:

Since I feel I am already putting sufficient pressure on Moscow I decided to use Guderian's Panzer Group to link up with AGS with the infantry and move on Bryansk. And yes Pelton, I will be in fuel hell soon, I did not play the logistics game very well for a few turns :)

In the south, 2 Rumanian and 3 German divisions had enough MP for a deliberate assault across the Dnepr and I expand the bridgehead.
2 small pockets are formed and the rest of the Panzer Group secures the flank south of the Dnepr

Leningrad AO

Prepping the assault for the city. Mobile forces will withdraw probably next turn.

Moscow:

2 Field Armies are assembling for the push on Moscow, with a Pz Corps in the north, 1 weak on in the center and a Pz Corps in the south. The southern Pz Corps received Model as commander and since then have done exactly nothing :)

I have 4th Army largely in Reserve and it can be committed towards Moscow if needed. By 'in-reserve' I mean that it mopping up east of Mogilev and I haven't decided a mission for it yet :)

And the South. A small pocket formed on the Dnepr and some more divisions with no way to escape destruction further north.

The 2 Pz Corps west of D-Town are waiting for the rest of 11th Army and 17th Army that is now force marching across the Ukraine.

I like forming these half pockets as it forces my opponent to choose:

- Do I leave those units to certain doom?
- Do I commit more forces to keep them in the fight longer?

Sometimes better than confronting your oppenent with a fait a compli as they can then mentally detach themselves from the lost divisions way more easily.

Manpower is now growing about 8k per turn after I fixed some TOE issues.

The best divisions in front of Moscow are put in II Corps with a new commander. Together with I Corps, these 2 corps will form the nucleus of the German premier army.

I have to commend my opponent for keeping up a high turn rate in the face of some real disasters.
I think his initial strategy has merit, but by his own admission he moved to defend Moscow too late.

FYI- once a HQ/AB unit gets to 89 its a -1 to all rolls, 79 -2 ect ect.

You have to set them to 93 so they don't tank below 90.

Great advice Pelton; I did not see that in the updated manual nor the condensed manual.

Darbymcd now has turn 13.

Turn 9:

Following the plan outlined earlier.

North: Leningrad is open; prepare the assault and extract mobile forces when I can
Moscow: Recon shows troops moving into position to defend, but it seems too late to me. Here I am willing to over extend to deny forts to be built up.
South: He has a LOT of units in the south. I need to get across the Dnepr and force him to move. After I get across I can assess what to do next. He is on schedule in the south with evaccing industry, so my focus here is to destroy as much of the red army as I can and try and get to Stalino before mud.

In the North, the assault on Leningrad is sadly a side show. First assault is conducted, while the rest of the Army moves in to overrun the city. Sviritsa also taken, so the city is isolated to facilitate easy assaults.

Edit, you can see the Pz Corps that was here on the RH, ready to move to Moscow area

Moscow

Slow but steady progress, with another few Red Army units doomed, even though not yet pocketed.

The southern pincer that I had high hopes for fails to materialise due to insufficient supply.
I had not yet learned the limits of German supply and it is hitting home hard this turn.
Not only the southern pincer, but also the Luftwaffe is out of sufficient fuel to operate effectively.
I had to make some adjustments here, pulling back fighter bases to the rail heads to refuel better. This is sadly a process that takes multiple turns, even if you are not flying missions, which I am.

The progress at Moscow was much less than I hoped, mainly because I was being greedy with the initial attacks with the Elite II corps... The new commander of II Corps is accumulating defeats. Relearned the important lesson of applying overkill in the first attacks of an assault on an enemy position. Precious Morale wasted by this... Last turn Darbymcd must have reorganized this area and assigned a better commander.

Further south I am probing on a broad front, looking for opportunities. There is almost nothing between Tula and Kursk and I am happy to threaten that gap.

Progress is slow, but the Red Army is paying for it in blood and Hiwis.

Near D-Town I am still waiting for the infantry.

Notice that few enemy hexes far south, I did not scout it out properly and my opponent has a little surprise for me in 2 turns.

Below the supply situation south of the Oka.

As I said, basically learning as I go and first time I noticed the 'black void' :( Now I know why my southern Moscow pincer failed to materialize. As the Panzers literally have zero fuel, all I can do atm is put the HQ at the edge of the void...

Lesson learnt I guess :)

Lastly, screenie of OKH. notice the pioneers and Stugs that I freed up for the forces committed to Moscow. There is already plenty of artillery there as most of the Corps involved were loaded up initially.

Turn 10

Main event for me, was that Darby sortied west of Tula and found the HQ of poor Model. That Panzer core is out of commission for this turn and the next, making my planned southern pincer a complete failure while Russians are digging west of Kaluga.

Of course this was preventable, but I was obsessed with trying to get some supplies through last turn.

With southern pincer not materializing, my hopes are pinned on the northern and central thrust. I keep making progress with more units toast and fort building being denied. Manstein's Pz Corps is now almost in striking distance!

No screenie of Leningrad as I am just overrunning the city. The battlefield will be tidied up next turn and 2 more Inf Corps are moving to Moscow.

In the south I form a half pocket near Kharkov and do 2 HQBU. Hoping to completely unhinge his front here next turn.

My fuel wasting is now costing the Luftwaffe as missions need to be flown, and they don't always have the proper escort.

I am turning off ground support at the end of my turn to prevent farming of bombers.

The Luftwaffe is needed now, and I am willing to bleed it white to help the assault on Moscow be a success.
That being said, I am not going about it willy nilly, not going to spend the Luftwaffe in one turn.

The manpower pool will stop growing as I am dialing up TOE for all units involved in the assault on Moscow.

I did warn u about the black hole [:-] and logistics in general.

I leave LW near RH's if you move them forward to fast ( as you did ) this costs trucks which add up by the end of summer.
I generally move AGC LW to AGN area as RH moves very fast and can help with Leningrad. I also do not move more then 2 Army HQ's or AHQ AB's.
This is a huge unnessary waste of fuel and trucks. Sending all your planes to reserve also can be a huge boost to truck pools.

The up side is your enemy is not that good. You can quickly tell if they are a vet or not by turn 4.

If they leave industry west of rivers first 4 turns and use the rail to move 20-30 units from south of marsh north to Leningrad then you will have
to really grind for Leningrad - making Moscow not possible 41.

Question about supply/rail repair

The below screenshot is from Turn 15. My Question is, how many MP should units be from rail heads at maximum when mud hits?

The Finns in the North east had that location as their goal to anchor the front but they are in the void and it wont get much better in 2 turns. Should I pull them back?
Theoretically, if Sviritsa's port were repaired, would it have been worth to repair the rail encircled in red?
