MalleusDei -> Any way to use 4.5 OB's with 5.0? (5/9/2001 7:26:00 AM)

Is there any way to use the 4.5 OB's with 5.0? I *really* do not like the 5.0 OB files at all and would like the benefit of the game improvements while using OB files that I can stomach. TIA for any advice.

I would say in a way you could but the AI picks and units designed to be used with v5.0 would not work and you would get very strange battles. What do you not like with the new OOB's.

The air OB is a Great Leap Backward, and there aren't enough higher units/combined arms units (combat groups, KG, etc.) to suit me plus there appears to be artificial limits on how much of one type of unit you can buy in Battles even if you have more than enough points available. Basically, I would like the SPWAW game engine and graphics with the OBs (and spotter planes!!!) from SPWW2. :) But I would settle for the 4.5 OBs.

We give you the pieces to assemble the larger units as you want them. There is a good TO&E document that comes in the package. Turn Rarity off and the "artificial limits" go away (didi you read the whats new?) Spotter planes don't belong in the game for reasons that have been argued ad nauseum. Its not an air game so we have representative ground support types, but reduced the number of bobmer aircraft and made more generic level bombers...Grunts don;t care much if its an A-26 or a B-24 dropping the bombs on their heads! We had too many scenarios already done to change the OOB format to include lots of units, a great many of which are nearly identical and simply have different names...

Thanks for the response! I will indeed turn Rarity off and will stick with 5.0 and start fiddling with the editor - but not too much. :) The A-20 shall return. On the positive side, the game's engine and graphics are REALLY good, and SPWAW is a heck of a game and a heck of an achievement. (And, personally, I always cared what was overhead and I think that the bad guys who were on the receiving end of what was flying overhead always cared more than me because thare are matters of accuracy, maneuverability, loiter time, and weapons load that are often plane- or copter-dependent. I think that pretty everyone wants to know just how bad things can get. :) )

Thaw was supposed to be "pretty much everyone." Early Alzheimers, I guess. :)
