Hi Guys and Gals. This movie is about Desmond Doss. He was called the "Conscientious Objector."

Here is the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEjh7-thFok

Enjoy!

The movie is called "Hatchback Ridge," or something like that.

Doss was a Seventh Day Adventist from northeast Alabama. He was a conscientious objector for religious reasons. He ended up as a medic (corpsman?) in the PTO. He received the Medal of Honor for his work during the Battle of Okinawa.

Doss lived in Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. Some of his immediate family live here, including one lady who operates a restaurant I frequent for breakfast.

Mel Gibson is involved with this movie, so I don't have high hopes for any semblance of historic accuracy. His work with The Patriot and We were Soldiers Once was awful. I think he got higher marks for The Passion of the Christ, though I didn't see that one.

Look interesting, not sure if I will like it. Hard to believe that someone got drafted and wont carry or use any weapons.

It happened and more than one of those "C.O's" got the MOH during different wars.
(I hate it when so-called educated people call it the "congressional" Medal Of Honor.)
There, your weekly "can o' worms".

Here is another from my war.

Gibsons "Braveheart" made the movie that shall not be named on here seem historically accurate.

I did not serve with the 1st AirCav but I felt the depiction of Gen Hal Moore and his troops was spot on.

One of my best friends did fight in the Ia Drang battle.

Ugg. I have to disagree. We were Soldiers seemed like a lame attempt to place Zulu or Wagon Train in a Vietnam setting.

I should point out that Hal Moore was a Lt. Col. at the time of X-Ray/Ia Drang Valley.

Out of curiosity, m1bob, did you read the book, which was co-authored by Moore and Joe Galloway? It's the finest piece of military history I've read (and that's saying something, for as a general rule I don't have a high degree of interest in the Vietnam conflict).

Sorry for hijacking, but it's not a complete hijack since Gibson is involved in the upcoming Doss movie.

Not criticising all his work mate, just "Braveheart".

Great book, one of my favorite reads.

Zulu was a great movie. I read a book about Roarke's Drift. What a rip-roaring affair that was.

Anyways, I just want to make sure; Ben Affleck isn't in this movie is he? If so I don't even want to see a trailer, even if he's playing a bad guy. The difference in talent between him and his good friend Matt Damon is pretty stark.

I was aware Moore was a LTC at the time, and yes, I have read the book.
Generally I avoid books on that war like the plague.

I have a couple of hundred history books in my library and have maybe 2 or 3 on that war.

Braveheart is a good movie, it is just not for historians or to anyone slightly interested in medieval history

No Ben Affleck is not in this movie.

I really like Hugo Weaving, he's done a lot of really good work.

I agree with you on the book. It's in my top 5 military books and I've read a fair few. As to the movie it was fairly good up until that stupid bayonet charge scene but that's Hollywood for you. Also Zulu wasn't the most accurate war film ever made.
