splatterhans -> Political Points question (8/8/2016 5:21:34 PM)

Hi,
I`ve got a question regarding political points.
I`m playing with patch 6 (so not the new beta yet)
Playing as Allies, date is Dec 24, 1941.
I have 417 political points.
I recombined the 1st Australian Division in Sydney.
This division is attached to the Australia Command (R) and costs 729 points to change.
When I try to change the command to I Australian Core, this actually works !!
And I am still in the plus with my pp`s, ending up with 235 points. How can this be ?
Is this wad or a bug ?
Thanks in advance for help.

I can't say for sure without seeing it, but there are often two tiers of cost for HQ assignment changes. A lower cost to change within the same Command HQ, and a higher cost to change to outside the current Command HQ. Does that make sense?

That is right, but usually this is indicated by a text saying: so many points for changing outside and so many for changing inside command.
Here just the 729 is mentioned, and changing outside command is not possible for this division. All outside commands are greyed out.

If you have a save from before making the change you can look again and take screen pics. If it looks like a bug Michael might like to see the save and pics.

Ok, I uploaded the last save, so you guys can check it.

Michael can check it, but honestly he does a ton of work (all volunteer) on the game code. If you can post screen pics of what you see before and after then maybe one of us players can clear up the mystery.

Yaab -> RE: Political Points question (8/8/2016 8:24:23 PM)

splatterhans, the HQ rebate is NOT indicated in the text string. It costs 1/4 of the price you see to change a unit to an HQ in the same theatre command and the full price (729 points) to an HQ outside the theatre command.

splatterhans -> RE: Political Points question (8/8/2016 8:31:49 PM)

Ah, I see. The math is correct then.
Just a bit confusing because a lot of times the game does differentiate between in and out command changes and shows the
difference in pp price.
Thanks a lot !

BBfanboy -> RE: Political Points question (8/8/2016 8:54:01 PM)

I put it down to a different programmer handling the Air Units (which do show the 1/4 price for change to another HQ within the command) from the one handling the LCUs ( which do not show the "special rate for family and friends of the Commander"!) [:D]

Note that if you change 1st Australian Corps HQ to an unrestricted command like SWPAC, the units already reporting to it become unrestricted too. This is considered gamey, but IMO with the inadequate PP allocation for the game (50 per turn is at least 3X too small) it is awfully tempting to do it.

HansBolter -> RE: Political Points question (8/8/2016 9:52:19 PM)

Be aware also that the PP cost is based on unit size so NEVER let a restricted unit you plan to eventually buy out take replacements until AFTER you have paid for it.

Now that I have said never, let me qualify it. Never, unless the restricted area of the command is invaded and you need to put the restricted unit into combat without buying it.

The same is true for changing the command of a base. Cost is based on the combination of port/air size, so buy them before you build them up.

splatterhans -> RE: Political Points question (8/9/2016 5:10:07 PM)

Thanks very much for the help guys, that answers my question.
Now I can continue my campaign.. [8D]
Hans, I am curious though why you change the hq of a base ?

Yaab -> RE: Political Points question (8/9/2016 9:03:19 PM)

I guess he uses base changing in order to a) evacuate air groups b) create USN barges.

HansBolter -> RE: Political Points question (8/9/2016 10:22:28 PM)

Actually for the Allies its PT boats not barges Yaab, but your spot on as the Brits say.

Some I also do for mere aesthetics such as changing Noumea from FF to American.
