timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (6/6/2017 4:39:42 PM)

Turn 161

The Axis continue to retreat in good order except in the Western Pripets where 1st Tank front gets in behind some German divisions.

1st Tank army heads North from Arad to assist other formations from 2nd Tank front in clearing Eastern Hungary.
A request from 1st tank army to probe Westwards towards the Danube was turned down by 2nd Tank front commander Bagramyan due to shortages of fuel and worries about inadequate flank protection.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (6/6/2017 4:48:27 PM)

The last two broken rail links in Eastern Romania are repaired taking rail suply all the way to Arad next week.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (6/20/2017 1:50:04 PM)

Turn 162

With the Romanian rail line operational massed Soviet infantry arrives around Arad including the elite 61st army and 1st shock army which has been transfered from the North.
2nd tank front continues to engage the few Hungarian and Wehrmacht units that remain in Hungary.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (6/20/2017 2:02:10 PM)

The battles of the Western pripets claim some German and Hungarian scalps. No German motorized units are in any of the pockets though and none have yet been destroyed throughout the campaign.

7th tank army withdraws from the fighting and prepares to join the rest of 2nd tank front in Hungary.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (6/21/2017 8:55:52 PM)

Turn 163

2nd tank front leaves the mopping up to the infantry and pushes past a weakly defended Tisa river line. It's orders are to secure a bridgehead across the Hron river before the Germans can build a strong defensive position North of Budapest.
2nd Guards tank army is sent South to give 2nd tank front a more powerful spearhead.

The Guards rifle corps of 1st shock and 61st army make for Budapest.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (6/23/2017 5:08:32 PM)

Turn 164

2nd tank front scouts find the Hron river to be too well defended for a hasty assualt, however air recon patrols report that the Danube seems to be undefended in Southern Hungary. Bagramyan (2TF) orders the well fuelled 5th and 6th tank armies to take advantage of this opportunity to outflank the Danube defenses.

2nd Guards army and 7th tank army arrive at Arad this week to reinforce the offensive in Hungary.

Overview

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (6/25/2017 9:39:08 PM)

Turn 165

The Hungarian force defending the Sio river is routed allowing 5th tank army to sweep North trapping the German divisions defending the Danube South of Budapest while 6th tank army pushes West towards Gyor and the Raba river through undefended terrain. 7th tank army is sent across the Danube to reinforce these two armies.
Budapest is succesfully assualted by 1st shock and 61st armies guaranteeing the surrender of the shattered remains of the Hungarian army next week.

bigbaba -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (6/26/2017 7:49:09 AM)

wow, now that is a perfect deep Operation offensive. identify the weak Point, penetrate, exploit.

damnd, why does my posting sounds so fishy?:) it was not intented.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (6/29/2017 10:21:51 PM)

Yes the opportunities for deep penetration are rare when playing the Reds.

Turn 167

Good sized pocket North of Warsaw. Will need to be resealed next week probably.

[image]local://upfiles/36871/F36860DFA690478FB42AD717C6E007FD.jpg[/image]

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (6/29/2017 10:30:40 PM)

The Bratislava line is smashed by 1st Shock army and 1st tank army secures the high ground.

The offensive South of the Danube has been held up slightly by poor supply. The rail head will cross the river at Budapest soon.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (6/29/2017 10:49:19 PM)

Turn 168

The pocket North of Warsaw is tightly sealed this week. A good haul of eleven divisions in total.

Leningrad front takes Riga and now I start to disband most of it. The four best rifle corps are formed into an army and head for Hungary with the front air army.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (6/29/2017 11:00:40 PM)

Vienna falls to 2nd Guards army and 1st tank army breaks out. Supply is still not great here.

The newly formed 8th tank army reinforces 2nd tank front. There are now six tank armies in the South.

Balou -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (7/1/2017 9:03:10 AM)

Congrats to 7TA/2GA, having liberated my hometown 9 months earlier than historically.

Crackaces -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (7/1/2017 2:57:47 PM)

I was wondering why the Germans did not defend south of Gyor. I have my answer. But this position is breached in 2 places .Looking at the rail network it looks like 2 turns from being a huge trap and not much room for building another line of defense. Maybe the Germans are gambling on your supply grid?

sillyflower -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (7/2/2017 10:16:49 AM)

Looks like the Yanks will soon be having to pay the royalties for Budweiser to Stalin.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (7/4/2017 9:37:32 PM)

Turn 169

Three more German divisions get caught before they can escape across the Vistula to safety.

Stalin uncharacteristically allows 1st Polish army the honour of liberating Warsaw.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (7/4/2017 9:46:40 PM)

The Germans abandon their Danube defenses and run for the hills with six tank armies in hot pursuit.

1st tank front makes a small breakthrough North of Katowice.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (7/7/2017 4:36:35 PM)

Turn 171

The Germans continue to trade space for time except where they are well dug in behind the Vistula. This long retreat has mostly been successful in preserving the Wehrmacht, but space and time are running out. I have until March 31st to take Berlin and claim a major victory.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (7/7/2017 4:49:18 PM)

Resistance has stiffened in Czechoslovakia, but the Soviet armor is hard to contain due to it's density and our momentum continues.

The Soviets are headed for the HofBrau in Munich ! :)

Turn 172

The Germans form a new line anchored on Prague.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (7/17/2017 12:58:49 PM)

The Romanian army is being disbanded now except for the still useful mountain divisions.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (7/17/2017 1:10:45 PM)

Turn 173 (The final Summer turn)

The vistula is crossed in the North.

One armored thrust almost breaks through North of Posen and another captures Leignitz.

In the South the Germans fall back to the Mountains, the last major obstacal before Berlin.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (7/17/2017 1:16:23 PM)

More of the Romanian army is disbanded. Also one of the Soviet fronts is being disbanded.

timmyab -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (7/17/2017 1:19:54 PM)

We still have a 3 to 1 advantage in men.

How much did that relieve pressure on (part of) your vehicle pool ?

Stelteck -> RE: timmyab (Sov) v Smokingdave (Axis) (7/17/2017 3:42:45 PM)

I hate when soviet fronts are disbanded for no reason other that "they were historicaly disbanded lol" and you loose, often by surprise AP and time (the time&AP you spent organising the front). Without any relation to operational situation.

It is really have no meaning and gameplay wise it is awfull.

Not that much I don't think. I have thought to disband a tank army or two to relieve pressure but that would have negative consequences as well. On the whole I'd rather have the tank armies.

Yes it would be nice to have full control of front creation and disbanding. Would also be nice if you could remame them as you like.
