sablewyvern -> Games with PVP Multiplayer Campaigns (8/15/2016 1:35:06 AM)

Hi All, I'm looking for suggestions for games that can be played multiplayer PVP (as opposed to coop), with a campaign mode -- either turn-based games with reasonably lengthy scenarios, or RTS with a strategic layer. My brother an I are currently playing one of the Wargame:ALB campaigns. We just finished one game, with a draw, and have swapped sides to play through again. Once we're done the second time through, we'll probably be looking for something new to move on to. I was thinking our next game was likely to be Decisive Campaigns: Barbarossa, as I've been playing that solo and greatly enjoying it, but having just switched to the Russians I've found the game fairly disappointing from that side. I'm also interested in playing some Flashpoint Campaigns multiplayer but, as much as I've enjoyed it, I can't recommend it to my brother at full price, and it also has no multiplayer campaign mode. We both have MWiF, but I doubt my brother will ever find the time to actually play the Global campaign. I'm also very much not happy with the way convoy management system is implemented (last time I checked, anyway, which was probably about a year ago). At some point, we'll probably play the Barbarossa and Guadalcanal scenarios. We played one of the early Gary Grigsby games a long while ago (covered the WWII European and North African theatres, as I recall), which was fun if a little simplistic. We have also played plenty of Close Combat in the past, but I'm not interested in any of the modern CCIV reskinned releases. We're happy to play games in any pretty much any period; net-play or PBEM; turn based or RTS with a strategic layer. The main requirement is tactical/strategic depth and a reasonable attempt at realism. Older games are perfectly acceptable; we're more interested in quality of gameplay than flashy modern graphics (although the pretty is always welcome). So, give me your wisdom. What should we be looking at as options for our next game? Edit: having spent some time browsing through the Matrix/Slitherine catalogue, I'm leaning towards GG WitE as the next game to check out.
