Irinami -> Cheat Found -- Cavalry Monsters (4/16/2003 9:38:00 PM)

This is a heads-up to everyone. In every install of SP:WAW I've had, there is a "cheat" to get 54-man cavalry squads.

Take a water transport--barge, LVCP, etc. Load a cavalry squad into it. Despite cav having 255 carry cost, they will be able to load. If they have over 10 men, the game will tell you there is not enough room to load everyone and ask if you want to load anyway. If you select Yes, they will load up. Now, if you unload that transport, you will have a 54-man cavalry squad.

While this may be handy when just trying to play through against the AI (taking out a 12-man squad with one shot of your carbines certainly shortens the game a bit!), it's something to be aware of against the unscrupulous gamer--and something to avoid doing on accident. I could only imagine the ****-storm that would rise up if someone accidentally did this in PBEM! ^_^;

Forwarded the info to our "chief", who's in charge for next oobs release (hope soon), to see if is something which can be easily fixed, or is hardcoded.

Thanks Resisti. If I may offer a student's observation: It appears that transports are concerned first with the classification of the unit. In this case, Cavalry is classified as "Infantry." I think the transport says, "It's Infantry, so I can always try to load it... so I don't worry about hundreds--the gun-weight number--because it's not a gun... ... It's Infantry!" So it skips over the 200-part of the 255, and goes on to the 55. Somewhere in there, there's a math error that makes ( n - 55 ) = 53.

Note a similar thing sometimes happens in beach landings when you buy scout teams as auxiliary forces. I have had 4 scout "teams" added on to the end of my Platoons (eg, G0-4 are my SNLF, but G5-9 have been added on and are "Scout Teams")... with something like 18, or 81, or some other unGodly number of men in them. :eek: :eek:

RockinHarry -> (4/16/2003 11:19:07 PM)

Thanks, great news! :D IŽll add this one to my "assault boat" booster trick! I bet IŽll have some use for this "extra" new unit! :eek: :D

Give them a subgun with the OOB-editor and try it. XD

This appears to an old bug. This happened in beta testing with another class of unit and was fixed but it appears this one slipped thru the cracks -

Just do not tell Kerg :D :D

I am not sure this can be fixed in oobs as this could be a mech.exe error. I'll check and see what can be done.

You used to be able to do the same thing with tanks loading on trucks, back before they fixed it you could generate tanks with 18 man crews (if loaded on a 218 cap truck). I thought they had fixed this long ago.
thanks, John.

Bernie -> (4/18/2003 12:41:01 AM)

Sounds to me like the "fix" would be to get the weight right. Change the weight to reflect the correct number of men in the unit and the problem should go away. That and maybe reclassify the cav units to something other than infantry (perhaps similar to the MC units?)

Irinami -> (4/18/2003 9:40:31 AM)

Maybe make Cavalry into units of weight (Men*Size), if at all possible. Thus 15-man Lt. Cav unit of size 3 = WGT: 45. Or would that math break down once you started taking on casualties? I figure that's fair, as a horse is about twice the weight and bulk of a man with full pack, give or take.

A large dog may be twice the weight of a man, a horse is more like 10 times the weight, the whole idea of making them a 2xx unit is to make sure that they didn't get loaded on trucks, if they load onto a truck then they will gain men that way.
thanks, John.

Obviously you've discovered the equine version of the "Love Boat". They're breeding on those barges! ;)
