MC202Folgore -> Updated Game Not Loading: Multiple Errors (8/25/2016 5:38:37 AM)

After not playing CMANO for a while, yesterday I updated the game to the latest version and then added You Brexit, You Fix It. Somewhere something went wrong, because now when I try to load the game I get this:

Error found during application startup. Error details: Access to the path 'C:\Program Files\Matrix Games\Command\Temp\instance' is denied.

The path is correct, although the Temp folder is empty. Clicking OK gets me this additional error dialog:

Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Clicking Continue repeats the dialog ad infinitum.

Error details below. Help! I have no idea of what any of this means!

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Try running Command with 'Run as Admin..'

Running Command.exe as Admin works. Thanks!

So there's the 80% solution. It would be nice to be able to run the game from my desktop shortcut and main game menu, rather than digging into C:\Program Files\Matrix Games\Command. Mainly because I don't want my computer to think it's gotten the best of me...

For what it's worth, after updating the game the Command .ico isn't working on my desktop, either: it just displays the generic .ico.

thewood1 -> RE: Updated Game Not Loading: Multiple Errors (8/25/2016 6:08:39 PM)

Why don't you just change the short cut? I think that's what most people do.

Exactly.
Or do the following:
Open the game installation folder.
Find and select the file named autorun.exe.
Press the right mouse button and select Properties.
Click on the Compatibility tab.
Tick the option Run this program as an administrator.
Click on Apply and Ok.

You can use the desktop icon also. Right click it. Click on Properties. Click on Advanced. Click Run as administrator. Click OK. Click Apply. Click OK.

And lo, it did come to pass that I tried this... and it worked! And there was much rejoicing: yaay.

I never knew that little trick... that's gonna save me all sorts of time with programs I hafta click "run as administrator." Ha!

Two follow-up questions, just out of curiosity: First I now have two autorun.exe -- the one for the latest version of CMANO (8/15/2016) in /GameMenu_CMANO and another autorun.exe one level up, from last year. Is that earlier autorun.exe no longer of any use?

Second, so not running the program as admin clearly creates all sorts of problems, which running as admin magically solves. What's up with that?

Thanks!
