You can look at Gary Grigsby's War In The West - A Twist Of Fate: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbSx_b5pOYvElvtb3F-OykvgOlE76SqGW good thorough playthrough by XTRG who sounds an awful lot like Saruman the white. And another youtuber Lord Cucumber Let's Play Gary Grigsby's War In The West: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXIwxNbJRA-BGUeM7zCoayTA3PLgKz1bx

It can help to break the game down into bite size chunks.
If the Air game is too much right now, then automate it entirely while you concentrate on picking up the ground aspects (logistics, command, etc).

You can slowly take control of small parts of the air war as your experience increases.

So far I let the strategic air war in the hands of the AI and do much of the tactical myself.

Also thanks Ckacres for those links, they really showed me the things I didn't know off and how to do certain things.
