Romainpek -> Tambov FSB bug ? (9/6/2016 11:53:17 AM)

Playing as German, I took Rostov and decided to switch my southern Panzer Division to the Center Theatre of operation.
Alas, the Southern FSB is very far south, I need to move it north in order to accompany the panzer move. I'm given the possibility in the reports texts to move the FSB to Tambov, which would be fine, alas, when I need to click that tambov option, it is replaced by a possibility named "ignore the train", Tambov is not available.
"ignore the train" cost 2 PP and doesn't move the FSB anywhere. I could see no effect more than "don't move the FSB" which is free.

Is it a bug ?

Hi Romainpek,

Little hard to understand what is happening here without either a save game or some screenshots.

Cheers,
Cameron

I can send you a saved game if you want. To where ?

Easiest would be to get a free file sharing account at Dropbox or Box, upload the file, and post the link.

Do you see it here ?

Hi Romain,

Got it. I'll take a look.

Thanks.

Cameron

Hi Romain,

There's a small bug there caused by some residual data from an earlier beta version.

Tambov shouldn't be an FSB option. The closest you can get would be one city back at Voronezh but I'd suggest that even this would be unfeasible as the distances involved are simply too great for the available trains and trucks in '41 (probably even for '42).

You're playing on the Easy mode so this isn't a concern. What I'd suggest is to backtrack your FSB to Stalino and gradually work it up north from there to Kharkov. On easy mode this shouldn't slow you down much.

Interesting game you've got going there, though. Tough to take Leningrad and you may find Moscow a challenge with the onset of severe winter just around the corner.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Cameron

yes, in the meantime I had almost managed to send my southern PZ Army to the center Front when the Soviets counterattacked down towards Rostov. I had to send my PZ Army down south again to keep Rostov and reestablish a link with a cut off army further south East.
So now Moscow is out of reach and Leningrad as well anyway...

Hi Romain,

Winter really brings home the challenges the Germans faced. Imagine the Führer issuing his 'no retreat' order about now.

Cameron

Lascar -> RE: Tambov FSB bug ? (9/18/2016 10:09:46 PM)

Hi Cameron,

I am Romain's opponent in this game and it has been an entertaining learning experience playing the Soviets. Still absorbing many of the subtleties and nuances of the game.

I noticed that the winter effects on the German infantry, because of morale drops, makes them very brittle from Russian attacks. Which is to be expected if they are not prepared for winter. However, the German panzer and motorized infantry seem to be little impaired by the sever winter weather.

I know it was mentioned that sheltering in their vehicles mitigates the exposure effects, but their vehicles also suffered from mobility and combat effects due to mechanical breakdowns from the lack of proper lubricants etc. They seem to be operating with the same level of effectiveness as they did during warmer weather conditions. Surely heavy snow and icy conditions would limit their mobility.

It is now round 53 in January and although I have played the Reorganization Command Card four times the massed tanks\artillery card is not yet available. So apparently it is a fair probability that they never appear?

Dave

Hi Lascar,

The Panzers should have been affected (AP penalties) once the temperature dived in mid/late December. I noticed that Romain had a High Octane fuel card available which may have been used to offset this.

The Soviet massed tanks/artillery cards should be available well before now. This was a bug that was fixed a while ago (May '16). Are you both using the latest version of the game (has to be both)?

Cheers,
Cameron

Lascar -> RE: Tambov FSB bug ? (9/19/2016 6:52:03 PM)

Hi Cameron,

Both of us are using 1.03r, the most recent update.

On page 108 of the manual the movement matrix shows tracked and
wheeled units with the same AP snow costs as non-snow.

When you refer to AP penalties is this through a mechanism other than the AP movement costs indicated on the movement matrix?

Thanks,
Dave

lancer -> RE: Tambov FSB bug ? (9/20/2016 12:30:53 AM)

Hi Lascar,

The cold weather effects on armour are in addition to the normal snow movement rates. They are based on a weather index which takes into account the low temperature and frostbite level for the unit's current hex at the start of the turn and gives a proportional AP penalty depending on the severity. Generally it'll only kick in once the temperature drops below -10 degrees Celcius (from memory).

The Massed Artillery and Tanks cards activate on a random roll from round 35 onwards based on a couple of factors. I checked Romain's save file and you should have received them by now (Dec '15). It's possible that you've just had a really bad run of rng's but that's unlikely.

I tested the cards again and can't see any problems as they activate normally for me. Give it a few more turns and if they still haven't arrived it's probably best that I take a look at your latest save file.

Cheers,
Cameron

Hi Cameron,

This game has ended and I never did have the option to select the massed tank/artillery/air defense card. I will upload the last saved turn (turn 53) that I have.
