There is also a reference chart in the PDF manual (or the paper one if you got a box copy)
The in game ones are a little different that the one provided in the above link, especially with sonar buoys (in CMANO, inside the circle is P for passive and A for active)
Also other than hostile, unknown, and friendly, there is also unfriendly and neutral. The colors go like this:
Red= Hostile
Orange= Unfriendly (no shooting, but can electronically jam each other; like US posture toward Russian units before the shooting starts)
Yellow= Unknown
Green= Neutral (includes biologics like whales and schools of fish [:D])
Blue= Your units plus allies (allies are designated with a small blue A next to the icon)
