I thought the one up in Chicago was U-505, one of only two U-boats captured during the war? The Hunt for Red October would have featured subs that were a bit more nuclear. Do you perhaps refer to the movie "U-571" which was set in the WWII era?

I was also referring to the sub that played "the USS Dallas" in the movie which is not and was not a nuclear sub in the movie or in reality and it is located in Portland, I think.

It appears I've lost my mind. The USS Dallas is still in service and was used in the film "Red October". I remember being on a decommissioned US sub in the NW somewhere and must have conflated it with the Dallas. The Dallas is nuclear powered and the boat I toured was not. Duxford is awesome. One can spend a day there between all the exhibits. Go on an airshow day and you will be in hog heaven. IWM at Hendon also worth 1/2 a day in my opinion - and reachable by tube. And of course there is the main IWM in London. That could take a few days to get through, but not too far from HMS Belfast, which is also a treat. Have never made it to Bovington. Just got to London tonight so maybe that's my day trip tomorrow.....
