Watching Paradogs AAR, I notice that naval units are not affected when they are in port and enemy ground units surround it? I'm speaking of the Canadian DD in port in Britain. In Dundee I think?

I haven't seen this section of the video series, but land units can attack naval units in port.

BPINisBACK -> RE: Naval Game? (11/8/2016 5:08:02 PM)

The fact is that in SC2 if a land enemy unit conquered a port... the ships there... was destroyed.
In the video it could be seen that in SC3 it didn't happend. [X(][X(]

That's what I was questioning. Maybe it'll be different with the finished product?

It's never been the case that naval units in port have automatically been destroyed when attacked by land units adjacent to them, that is determined by all the factors in play, but as in previous releases in this series, they are at a severe disadvantage if attacked by the land units, and will be lucky to survive.

Shouldn't they just be able to displace? I can't see them hanging around to be destroyed!

Indeed and this behavior has been adjusted for the final release [:)]

And there it is once again! Same old thing for what, over a decade now.[8|]

The premier action that has caused this game's success year after year.[&:]

Hubert, and later Bill, can always be counted on to make excellent design decisions. No brag, just fact![8D]

For the naval game I have only one small thing that I don't like about the new map,and that is Scapa Flow is attached to the UK mainland,I know its all to do with the scale off the map,I also realise that the Orkneys are only about 10 miles from the mainland, which is well within the 1 hex = 20 - 25 miles scale. When I get my copy of the game, the naval base at Scapa Flow will be in a seperate hex unattached to the UK mainland.[;)]

All this is why, for strategic games, I like the naval systems more in games like Clash of Steel and World at War:A world Divided. Using naval zones and having the POTENTIAL for naval combat, and somewhat random encounters, is my preference. I don't care for the ships in hexes for grand strategic games like this.

There is a lot at this scale that doesnt make a lot of sense in terms of counters on a map. Air units exerting a ZOC and having to be eliminated to take a city by a friggin' corps or army? There is a degree to which you sort of just want to abstract the air and naval fights as allocated resources or something because the game is clearly focused on the land war. Still a day 1 buy for me.

James Taylor -> RE: Naval Game? (11/11/2016 11:18:01 PM)

I always considered air units as having an inherent defensive value with the likes of triple A being around and having somewhat of a ground attack capability.

A ZoC is probably a stretch, and I now believe the new rules is they'll displace if attacked by a ground unit.

My attention to detail must be slipping, because I have just noticed that Rosyth dockyard has moved from the Forth near Edinburgh to the Tay at Dundee, something else I will have to alter when I get the game.

This one is an easy fix,I will just have to move the name Rosyth from Dundee to the port near Edinburgh.

Now historically the port at Dundee operated Submarine Flotilla's, so when I get my copy of the game,I will reverse the units positioned in the screenshot. The Cruiser will go to the port near Edinburgh, and the Submarine near Edinburgh will go to the port at Dundee.[:D]

NB: The repositioning of name Rosyth really needs to be done by the game developers,it is obviously in the wrong place, even allowing for the game scale, which I believe to be 20-25 miles, the distance from Rosyth to Dundee is 43 miles,I showed this photo to friends of mine from Rosyth and they were livid that they were anywhere near Dundee.
