In a wargame especially one based on World War 2,for me the more unit types available the better.As for this debate on whether or not Waffen SS units should be available in the standard game as a seperate entity,yes is the answer they should be! They were the German Elite units and they got preferential treatment by the German high command,more over their training was different to the Wehrmacht!They should be available to use in game as Brigade, Division & Corps strength units.

I don't really care about their good or bad reputation,that is irrelevent in a wargame.If you were to go down the road as to what offends people, no wargames would ever get made.On a personal level I don't like the Luftwaffe,becasue I lost many relatives during the war because of them,does that stop me playing these games no it does not.

For me this is quite an easy call.

Given modders the option to use some additional unit types by the developes would be nice (would avoid the ugly workaround to create those kind of "state within a state" modellings - even when in some respect there can be some historical correctness in this, it creates strange side effects) = more freedom for creativity = good choice.

Pushing last minute changes into a well balanced game or limiting its availability to the global gamer community to push in some more (real or hallucinated) "historical correctness/preciseness" = bad choice.

So let`s hope the developers offer a rich and balanced game with enough potential for interesting game sessions. If you need some Waffen SS, Guards, Elite, Volkssturm or "whatsoever" units to enjoy the game, I assume the door is open (as it was in the past) anyways...

You'll convince me the obsession over SS units isn't tied to Nazi fetishism the day the same people post passionate, angry screeds begging for Soviet Guards units to have ~special unit colors~ and proper representation.

Yet... somehow... they never do. [8|]

Nice post. So someone does not hold your view - therefore they must be a Nazi fetishist? [8|]

Given the scale I can live without the SS. However I don't think Special Forces should be present in a game of this scale. That seems a strange design decision.

I thought the whole point of "Special Forces" units within the context of the game was to be a more generic way of representing elite units like the Waffen SS, Soviet Guards, Shock, etc.

That may be the case. My definition of Special Forces is more along the lines of the SAS, SEALs etc.

Not all of the Waffen SS would fall into the "elite" category. Some of the higher numbered divisions were little better than rabbles and many of the others performed no better than the regular Army divisions.

jwarrenw13 -> RE: Waffen SS ? (11/17/2016 12:38:24 AM)

I have been looking forward to this game for some time and never gave any thought to whether there were SS units in the game or not until this thread appeared. It still makes no difference to me. But I do think it is shame that this is the top thread in the forum and the one most discussed over the last couple of days. But maybe I just don't get it.

Hexagon -> RE: Waffen SS ? (11/17/2016 7:53:59 AM)

Well, is for me a little strange have a game with AT/AAA units, fallschirmjager units (that in early war were more divisional scale not like in later war), Special forces and in a more "political" have shock-guards units but not SS units that were in the end a diferent type of combat unit in german army... i dont see "fair" remove them for political motives BUT mantein other units that could fall in same consideration.

The game is going to be very good, of course not perfect, but it could be a supergame thanks to his mod ability... and if devs release a WWI title that could be installed separate OR with SCWWE the value is going to be increased, maybe not a first day sell for you but with time and when game shows more...
