Impressive feat of the Kriegsmarine - amphibious landing of a panzer division :)

Will try to fix it, but it may be hard as some other bug of this type (messing with interface while the game is doing something).

A game -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/10/2016 1:48:08 AM)

I am also having this problem playing the game through steam, after a certain amount of time it all slows down to a crawl and I have to quit the program and restart. Never had this before I "upgraded" my version onto steam.

Kantti -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/10/2016 10:38:13 AM)

I have hard time believing that my GPU heat level would be the reason. I am completely fine in playing really graphic intensive games without any hiccups.

By the chance I am upgrading my GPU today to gtx 1070 so we will see, if it is GPU related issue.

morvael -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/10/2016 11:45:36 AM)

There must be something else.

Have you tried to play without sound?

Kantti -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/11/2016 9:27:42 AM)

Is there some else way to disable sound than by just putting volume to 0 in settings?

Denniss -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/11/2016 10:04:55 AM)

rename the sound folder, you may want to rename the video folder as well

morvael -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/11/2016 10:23:19 AM)

You could rename the sound folder inside the game's Dat folder.

AussieHozzie -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/12/2016 1:56:36 AM)

Renaming the sound folder and thus deactivating sound completely has no effect unfortunately.
I'm thinking it has to do with an issue with steam itself that interferes with the game but I'm not sure of what.
So far playing in offline mode or without steam overlay doesn't fix the bug.

Icier -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/12/2016 3:53:52 AM)

You cant beat Aussie ingenuity [:D][:D][:D][:D]

can we keep it...please please please [&o][&o][&o]..can you imagine the fun, German armor popping up
all over the place.

morvael -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/12/2016 5:58:26 AM)

Do you have some other overlays, used to stream videos, capture screen shots and display frame rates? I have read that many of them interfere with games, for example tools from MSI (which is some other product skinned).

AussieHozzie -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/12/2016 7:32:24 AM)

I'll attempt a debug with every possible overlay or steam feature off and get back to you with results.

AussieHozzie -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/12/2016 11:05:30 AM)

Unfortunately there's nothing positive to report from purging steam interfaces/overlays or features.

morvael -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/12/2016 12:21:36 PM)

I meant non-Steam overlays, from other companies. They may have been installed along the drivers.

Does the game slows down only after one or more AI turns happened, or will it slow down even if you will not end the turn and spend an hour making your turn?

AussieHozzie -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/12/2016 12:30:58 PM)

I recently put the game into a torture test, where it idled for more than an hour for 1 turn. Say, turn one on 1941 campaign, and eventually we have the memory leak/ "slowing down bug" occur. Interesting comment about the possible overlays installed with the drivers, I'll conduct a new test soon after cleaning the driver updates.

morvael -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/12/2016 12:37:13 PM)

These are things like MSI's Afterburner, AMD's Catalyst Control Center or nVidia GeForce Experience. There are many reports in the internet about problems caused by these in various games.

Good to know it happens also in idle mode. So there is no leak in the active code.

morvael -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/12/2016 12:40:43 PM)

Also, are you sure the computer is not running in some kind of power save mode?

AussieHozzie -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/13/2016 1:55:36 PM)

I didn't see any improvement from disabling or uninstalling nVidia GeForce Experience.
No to the power saving query.
Maybe somebody else with the same issue can come across a solution one day.

morvael -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/13/2016 2:10:44 PM)

Since even an idle game will slow down, it's not something that can be fixed without replicating your exact hardware & software setup. There is no leak in the game itself (especially in the logistics phase and AI code, of which I was most afraid), as it would slow down the game for everyone. This must be something that is interfering with the standard game loop that just paints the map and counters.

Kantti -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/13/2016 9:57:19 PM)

Seems that my problem dissappeared completely when I changed from ATI 280X to GTX 1070.

Old school pvp gamer morveal, but are you reading what you just put on paper?

That could be a big can of worms right there.

Interesting, but from AussieHozzie's post I reckon he has nVidia card, not one from AMD. So there's still no easy explanation for the problem, but for sure it's some external interference.

AussieHozzie -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/19/2016 6:50:30 PM)

I found a fix by solely deactivating the video folder in dat and leaving everything (including sound) to run as normal.
From the variety of issues for others in the thread my fix might not work for everybody.

morvael -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/19/2016 7:17:18 PM)

Interesting, since no videos are played during the game itself.

Denniss -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/19/2016 8:28:55 PM)

Maybe a codec does not work properly, staying active and forcing the gfx card into some kind of video mode with lower clock rates and increased power saving methods.

morvael -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/19/2016 8:43:16 PM)

Maybe it's something Helpless could look at.

AussieHozzie -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/20/2016 3:05:31 AM)

Sounds counter-intuitive but I'm not complaining now that everything is smooth again [:)]

adek670 -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/28/2016 3:59:25 PM)

Hi,

Had the same problem as that described. Fixed by setting the exe to run in win 7 compatibility and via admin rights.

System:
OS: Win 10
Cpu: Q6600
Gfx: Nvidia 260gtx
WitE: Latest beta

Ade

Denniss -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/29/2016 10:56:47 AM)

Do you get the problem back if you either remove admin rights or Win7 compatibility mode ?
This information may help to narrow down the cause.

adek670 -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/29/2016 4:27:36 PM)

Hey Denniss,

Just reverted it back and now laggy as hell.

Ade

Denniss -> RE: Game gradually slowing down (12/29/2016 8:17:11 PM)

Please try with just Admin or just Win7 compatibility mode enabled/disabled
