As the heading says...what the least difficult way, scenario, to ease into the game for new players using PBEM?
Thanks

If you're past the absolute basics of Velikiye Luki scenario which is best played solo as both sides to learn the interface, I'd go with something on bigger map but without huge number of counters. That means no late war scenarios. Maybe Road to Leningrad (but German player must be good at logistics to keep the panzers rolling, as all Barbarossa-related scenarios)? Smolensk 1941 if you have the second expansion. Battle for Kharkov 1942 if you have the first. Actually, most of the smaller scenarios are in the expansions.

I'm still a newbie -- so pretty well qualified to comment.

If you don't have the expansions, I would recommend "Road to Minsk" and "Road to Smolensk".

Road to Minsk seems too short to be worthwhile -- but at three turns it's a minimal investment of time and introduces many elements of the game at an easy-to-digest level. And will probably end in a tie between two newbie players.

The nice thing about Road to Smolensk, is it starts off the same as Minsk and is a longer game (10 turns). So you sort of can "build" on what you learn in Road to Minsk while concentrating on new aspects of the game system.

I went from a couple of those games against opponents to the Campaign Game. I probably would have been more interested in doing Barbarossa -- but my opponent wanted to go into the deep end of the pool and take me with him.

It is a BIG step up from the "Road to" scenarios to any entire front scenario.

Also a newbie, playing my first PBEM. Road to Leningrad definitely teaches you a lot (I'm the German) about logistics, rear area security, problems with the Finns, the terrain, running the air, exhausting your Panzers, and much more. After the first couple of turns it whisks along pretty snappily. Up to turn 10 so far and will probably finish next week.
