T Rav -> RE: War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition on sale! (12/7/2016 4:25:06 AM)

I've got another aspect about the game; one that I love about it. It has an amazing OB.

For example, how many folks know about the British ship, CM Abdiel, or it's history before seeing this game? For me, never. Whether it's ships, planes, units, weapons or bases, I like the deep dive that this game gives. Whatever question I have, I can find it on the net... but without this kind of detail I would never have known to even look.

Also, there is a developer/user relationship that I've never seen before; remarkable.

I bought it at full price and my cost is less than a penny/hour. If I lost it, I'd buy it again in a second. but I don't need to, because they have a great website that takes care of the lost hard drive issues. Been there, done that... Thanks Matrix!

You're absolutely right about the OOB and the sheer depth of it! Marvelous attention to detail. [&o]

The game has always been cheap.
As I’ve said before, in terms of cost, you need to think of WITPAE as a “bundle”.

There are 2 main, configurable into 4, large official campaign scenarios.
I say 4, because the allied side and the Japanese side are different games in the campaign scenarios.
The mechanics are the same but the Japanese side is a completely different game.

The Japanese side is almost too complex for me to handle. I’m talking global supply chains, advanced project management, cost benefit analysis and industrial production management. There is a free special third party utility called tracker available that sorts configurable categories into around 22 different parameters.

There are forum posts from players who have used advanced mathematics to calculate game parameters.
Math formulas are embedded in the manual. How many games do you know where that is true? Hardcore.

I would pay $150.00 for the Japanese side alone.

Then you have the submarine game. This is a game within a game.
American, British, Dutch and Japanese subs comprising about 30 different classes of submarines.
Subs that can patrol and loiter and return to port to rearm and refuel on their own.
Subs that can make decisions to attack with torpedoes or surface and use deck guns.
Subs that can lay mines
Subs that can transport troops and supplies
Japanese Subs that can launch float planes for search
Midget subs
Midget sub carriers.
All this in the entire Pacific theater at 40 NM per hex.

Where in the game universe are you going to go to get a very good and detailed strategic Pacific War
submarine game that covers all nationalities in the entire Pacific Theater. The answer is nowhere else.
I would pay $100.00 for that alone.

Currently there are 7 or 8 different map styles available with information configurable for the user.
Then you have the short scenarios about 7 official scenarios and God knows how many player designed mods.
Then you have what I call the big intense mods, like DaBabes. Currently about 18? game mods for that one alone.

Then you have the editor so you can configure the entire game your way.

All I’ve said above just barely scratches the surface of WITPAE.
It will keep you busy and entertained for years and years and years and years.

Right now on sale for a measly $39.99 you can get about 35 to 40 games in this one package. “Bundle”
That’s around $1.14 per game if you are interested in WW2 in the Pacific.

I almost upgraded from the original WitP last Christmas sale... are the changes enough to justify the new purchase? I've been watching tutorial videos and it seems like the interface makes setting up TF's easier, plus Aircraft patrols seem more detailed.

I already purchase WitW and Operation:Torch but I wouldn't mind making it a '2x3' Christmas.

(I stopped playing the original after moving to windows 8.1. The game operated fine but higher resolution and the small ground icons got to me.)

I played the original WiTP within about a week of it's release until the day WiTP:AE was released. "AE" is a much better game in every way I can think of. Better graphics, better detail, more realism, etc. etc.

Night and day.

The original wasn't bad, but WiTP:AE has enough improvements as to qualify as a "WiTP II". When the official patches are added on, it's a major improvement on the 'stock' version too, so be sure to get the latest updates.

RangerJoe -> RE: War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition on sale! (12/7/2016 8:41:49 PM)

I am playing scen 050, RA 8.1 with reduced cargo capacity. I still have most of the DEI except for a few cities that auto-converted from Malaysia. I have the Philipines except for Palawan and almost all of China except for Peiping/Tientsin area, I have parts of Borneo where I just captured Tarakan. I think that there is only NE Japanese CV left - they were sent into the Java Sea one or two at a time where I had LBA with American and British CV/CVLs.

It is the end of October 1942 and I have almost 50,000 points while the Japanese have almost 10,000 points.

Next time, I will do it on a harder level and even move more slowly but if something is given to me,I will take it.

Thanks [:)] ... it's a done deal![:)]

2 monster games (WitW and WitPAE) for Christmas unless my wife confiscates one to give me on Valentine's day. That's okay too; win/win at 50% either way.

Glad to hear it, jack54! Please let us know what you think after you 'digest' the game. [:)]

Also, AndyMac has updated several of the AI programs. It's in the MOD forum. He was one of 'The Originals'. You gotta love something people put so much of their own personal time into, long after it went to market.

Franciscus -> RE: War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition on sale! (12/8/2016 5:21:12 PM)

hello

I also have bought Witp:AE a couple of years ago, but have mixed feelings about it. And in reality I cannot consider it a "good buy" as I never got to really play it. And I do not consider myself a Beer-Pretzels type of gamer. I devoted countless hours to AACW, helped develop AJE, can understand and play WW2E by Schwerpunkt, enjoy small scale scenarios of WitW and WitE, and appreciate immensely DC:Barbarossa. But only against AI.

The sheer monstruosity of all Witp:AE related, coupled with an outdated manual (sure, I know it may not matter much and all manuals get outdated somewhere in time), the immensity of official and beta patch changes, some of which are probably only understood by the real players, sorry lack of anything resembling a tutorial, added to my lack of any knowledge of previous versions and lack of solid historic knowledge of the Pacific war are all to blame...

This coupled to lack of real time to devote to such a game, means that for the time being and foresseable future WitP:AE stands somewhat alongside War and Peace. I may yet find time in my life to both play one and read the other, but not sure...[:D]

Ok guys trying to reinstall War in the Pacific AE after having the scrolling problems months before. Thought I would give it another shot....but When I click on the game menu to get into the game....its upside Down?

How do I fix that. First time, i've had that happen. (The lettering Menu to get into the game is upside down).

Chickenboy -> RE: War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition on sale! (12/8/2016 11:16:09 PM)

Did you buy the Australian version of the game? [;)]

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition on sale! (12/8/2016 11:20:05 PM)

Direct download from matrix and copied.[:D]

Will_L_OLD -> RE: War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition on sale! (12/9/2016 9:58:19 PM)

Turn the monitor right side up?[;)]
Seriously though, reinstall again might be the solution.

jack54 -> RE: War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition on sale! (12/10/2016 12:02:57 AM)

Titanwarrior seems very strange .. are you starting with a new WitP AE.exe shortcut (with the various switches) or the default desktop shortcut to the auto-play exe.? Sorry but it's the only thing I could think of..

(I gave myself a headache trying to set the game to my monitor's native resolution; tried 6 times until I realized I was typing in the wrong resolution numbers [8|])

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition on sale! (12/10/2016 3:14:23 AM)

Default as far as I know. Game runs ok overall but the main menu to get into the game, is upside down. [:D] I could try what WIll proposes....it is a skinny monitor.[8|]
