Ohf -> Looking West : invasion of the USA (12/6/2016 9:12:05 AM)

Anyone invaded the US yet ?

I've been playing both campaigns on both sides, with very classical/historical strategic choices.
So for my next game I want to explore a big what if. What if Hitler invaded the UK and then the US ?

My war plan would be the following :

39 : Poland
40 : France (all of it) + Algeria + (Maybe UK ?)
41 : UK
42 : USA + Canada

At the same time, I would build a fortified line in the East to hold against the Soviet, and most of my troops would be stationned there during the US invasion.

And then turn East in 43-44, trying to win before 46.

Obviously I will heavily invest in naval warfare and amphibious.

I'd be glad to listen to any tips and advice !

London has fallen is december 40 ! It could have been earlier but this damn weather...since England and France have two different weather zones, sometimes the weather was bad on one side of the Channel, sometimes on the other, sometimes both. Without airpower London can be difficult...

Now I just noticed that I don't have access to Long Range Amphibious with the germans...can they be unlocked with a high enough Amphibious research ? Without them invading the US will be very complicated...

Be interested to see it because that is a lot of naval resources you will need and the Soviets aren't gonna sit quietly.

Hartmann -> RE: Looking West : invasion of the USA (12/6/2016 4:22:50 PM)

I was planning to do it in this order: Installing Z-plan, then Sealion, then Barbarossa, then invasion of US.

The Axis are restricted to just having regular Amphibious Transports. With research they can be improved, but the idea is to make an invasion of the US implausible, in fact virtually impossible.

That makes it even more enticing to try it. [:'(]

+1, I can't wait to see my panzers rolling through Washington.

I just took London in October 1940 but the amount of MPPs I spent for this is staggering, I don't really know how I'll deal with the Soviet...

Ohf -> RE: Looking West : invasion of the USA (12/6/2016 6:47:20 PM)

With this Long Range Amphib issue, I might take another approach. Going "classic" until 1944, and then invade England after repelling Overlord.

I will still invest heavily in naval/subs to take out the UK and US fleet early. And during Barbarossa take Iceland and Greenland as forward bases for the US invasion.

Check the Victory Conditions - if you capture all of the listed locations, then the game will end before you get a chance to cross the pond !

Ah crap ... there should be an option in the options letting us play until everyone's done for.

Just uncheck the Victory scripts in the settings :)

Ah ... good to know, I somehow thought they'd be hardcoded. :)

Very interested to see if you can pull it off early 1941. If i remember correctly from sc2 the US will get some help from scripted unit events as you invade. Not sure if that happens in sc3.

I don't think its possible given the very slow movement of amphibious units [:(]

Hartmann -> RE: Looking West : invasion of the USA (12/7/2016 4:57:13 PM)

I want it to be doable, but if it be doable early when the US hasn't any units to speak of yet, it wouldn't be fun.

guggy -> RE: Looking West : invasion of the USA (4/7/2017 4:42:50 AM)

Looks like this USA invasion thing is not that hard to pull ;)

Good job. [:D]

gt100 -> RE: Looking West : invasion of the USA (6/15/2017 9:48:07 AM)

Just setup game to veteran AI and invade US will be impossible [:D]

dennisjensen -> RE: Looking West : invasion of the USA (6/30/2017 8:45:17 AM)

Help wanted... I am now invading USA and have a beachhead and a habour. However, I cant seem to transfer my air units no futher than to Greenland. What am I to do?

BillRunacre -> RE: Looking West : invasion of the USA (6/30/2017 2:34:47 PM)

Hi dennisjensen

Once the urban resources in the US have a strength of 3 or more then you should be to operate in some air units, providing you have friendly empty hexes in or adjacent to these resources.

Icier -> RE: Looking West : invasion of the USA (7/3/2017 4:59:09 AM)

Bill,

I haven't seen the popup for the option of Sealion come up in any of the games...is that still a thread?

BillRunacre -> RE: Looking West : invasion of the USA (7/3/2017 2:12:45 PM)

Hi

There is an advice pop up in mid-September in the 1939 campaign, advising Germany to invest in amphibious warfare and a few other things if Sea Lion is going to be considered. That's all though, and I haven't turned it off so it should appear as it's set to a trigger of 100%.

The image itself is called german_report_sealion1.png and can be found in the Media folder within the game's main installation.

Hopefully it should appear your side if you run a quick test in Hotseat mode with a new campaign?

Icier -> RE: Looking West : invasion of the USA (7/5/2017 6:26:08 AM)

Hi Bill,

it is not happening...the only popup for September is the Navy recommending the mining of ports. I don't
know if it makes any difference, but all my games are against humans.
Also, isn't it a bit early for the popup, the Germans haven't even taken on the French yet, if I remember correctly
Hitler didn't order Sealion till fall of France.[sm=character0267.gif]

BillRunacre -> RE: Looking West : invasion of the USA (7/6/2017 4:12:05 PM)

I've found it!

It was only set to fire in games against the AI, so I'll change that and see if any more are incorrectly set that way.

It is applicable because it is advising you on what you might need to do to prepare to launch the operation. Leaving that until later would be too late, e.g. Amphibious Warfare research needs to be undertaken straight away, and the Pop Up is modeled on a study from late 1939 that was carried out, if I remember rightly, by the Kriegsmarine.

Thanks for pointing this out and helping me track it down. [:)]
