Is there no way to cross at these straits (or other straits, say the Denmark islands)? I can't believe you have to use transports at another port to get land units to Sicily (or evacuate from same). Am I missing something?

I can move land units from Southern Italy to Sicily easily, and back.

So can I. What you can't do is "operate" land units from one land mass to the other.

I'm not sure what you guys are saying. I had a German paratrooper unit move to the toe of the boot across from Messina. On the next turn I tried to move it to Messina and it wouldn't budge. Not operate. There are no special map notations indicating a crossing, and it appeared to me it was not possible. What you seem to be saying is that my paratrooper should've been able to make the move I was unable to make.

Actually, I went back and tried to move a unit across the straits and I was able to do it. Not sure what happened earlier to prevent the move, but it clearly wasn't possible. ???
