Sardaukar -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/17/2017 11:46:09 AM)

Now it's time for Operation Bagration...in summer 1942... [X(]

jwolf -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/17/2017 1:59:21 PM)

Serious question here -- I've been out of WITE for a while, so I don't have a good feel for this -- but after these catastrophic German losses, will they be able to do anything at all in the summer of 42?

Hortlund -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/17/2017 2:23:42 PM)

Nah, Model has spammed the areas behind the front 4-5 hexes deep with single units in each hex. Sort of like a zerg-defence. No real point in even trying when facing tactics like that. I managed to pocket I think it is 9 corps and 9 divisions in Romania, but thats about it for the summer I think. Recon indicates that he will be trying some form of Bagration operation though, so it should be interesting nevertheless.

bigbaba -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/17/2017 3:14:10 PM)

the red army can not maintain such a defense all over the front. at least in the early phase of the war. so movement is important by attacking the flanks and force the enemy out of his fortifications.

hope you can stop bagration and not lose a entire army group.:)

maybe guderians favoured tactic (schlagen aus der hinterhand) by counter attacking exposed russian spearheads is a way to go now.

Hortlund -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/18/2017 3:46:48 PM)

Here is a current view of what happened this turn. Since it is current, I have tried to mask my units, which also shows what the frontline looked like at the start of the turn.

The German attack is planned in blue.

Hortlund -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/18/2017 3:47:38 PM)

And the outcome. If I can keep up this kill/loss-ratio, then I might be able to survive...

VigaBrand -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/18/2017 4:07:26 PM)

You didn't survive. You had now some fun and some nice counterstrokes, but you will never ever survive this game.
Sorry. But have fun now.

Hortlund -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/18/2017 4:21:55 PM)

Good talk!

Hortlund -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/19/2017 1:44:48 PM)

Another good turn as we reduce the second pocket.

Hortlund -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/19/2017 1:46:33 PM)

Thats around 430 000 men lost in the first two weeks of June for the soviets. Together with 700 tanks and 5000 guns its not too bad.

VigaBrand -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/19/2017 7:59:14 PM)

Nice turn again. Great work you need more of that.

bigbaba -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/19/2017 8:03:30 PM)

oh my...hopefully you will outpreform yourself in this game and have no energy left for ours, hortlund.:)

Sardaukar -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/20/2017 12:31:09 PM)

With all those manpower centers in Soviet hands, he will soon have 9 million army... So he can afford few million losses here and there...

Hortlund -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/20/2017 3:06:09 PM)

Yeah yeah, soviets have more manpower, so what else is new [:)]

Meanwhile...

[image]local://upfiles/1562/67E9BBD3C7EB4993A0D8497488BA27B8.jpg[/image]

With the end of July approaching, we take out another 165 000 russians, bringing the month total up to 600 000 men

Hortlund -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/20/2017 4:53:56 PM)

Ah, but trouble stirs in the east... Could this be Operation Bagration?

[image]local://upfiles/1562/F17270CE222C42F9A645862B2B8AFD50.jpg[/image]

Hortlund -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/20/2017 5:06:14 PM)

Meanwhile, we bag another 150 000 soviets

[image]local://upfiles/1562/EE882DE9E24049C8B23340CF8C6B7FD8.jpg[/image]

So, 750 000 men, about 1000 tanks and 9000 guns, not bad for a month

VigaBrand -> RE: Romania and Hungary Surrender 1942 (3/20/2017 6:37:07 PM)

Could you please post the overall manpower losses and the frontline in the South?

Good to see you playing as Russians, Mr P [;)]

Yup, GeneralfeldmarschallWalterModel is Mr P too. The AAR reads verbatim like Mr P's. To be honest Mr P should have offered the German Player the same settings Mr P always advocates for, instead Mr P took the +1 Soviet attack and running with it. The hypocrisy goes so deep with that one.

Not that it would have mattered this game is all but over.

LOL. I read from the end of the AAR then came to this. Before I read I it I thought the same thing solely by noting the (good, but signature) game play. LMAO.

I'm still not convinced this isn't. The play of the Soviet isnt of a "novice" nature on the Soviet side at all, far from it. I still stand by what I wrote.

Hortlund -> RE: 13 attacks 13 wins turn 11 (3/22/2017 12:20:10 PM)

Battles over most parts of the front now. Model is penetrating my lines and Im having some success closing the gaps. In the process I have managed to cut off several tank corps. I just eliminated such a pocket in the north, where he lost 5 Tank Corps.

So, his tank losses are mounting.

This however irks me somewhat.

[image]local://upfiles/1562/E7CDB92B3CFB4A1CBFFB7E729456A710.jpg[/image]

What he does is fill up the hexes that were surrounded with HQ-units, so the tank corps wont be able to retreat in the wrong direction. In the image, I had 4 Tank Corps and one Tank brigade surrounded. He managed to open the pocket and pull back one hex. Then he moved in 4 HQ units into the pocket so that the Tank Corps that were furthest east would not retreat west again.

I dont like that behavior.

You really believe for one second a novice/beginner would know to do such a tactic? No disrespect to either of you two here but he is toying with you like a cat with a cornered mouse and is enjoying every second of it. To be honest this is the most depressing AAR I have ever read. This isnt an AAR (After Action Review) where we learn from each other, this is a "look at me" what I have done review. I can only shake my head in disbelief this game continues. Again no disrespect to either of you two but the skill mismatch is "highly" noticeable and this mismatch has made for a "very" one sided game.

jwolf -> RE: 13 attacks 13 wins turn 11 (3/22/2017 10:57:17 PM)

That does look like a gamey tactic IMHO. It's designed, I assume, to avoid having units "herded" into pockets. Those HQ units will be routed, presumably, which will render them useless for about 2 turns. That may actually hurt the Soviets a bit as they don't have a lot of leadership to this point in the war. But as long as they're on the defensive, they probably won't miss much.

I agree with you, a good player should seek challenge by facing dangerous foes in highly contested battle.
I always wonder why on earth a veteran player would try to disguise as newbie in order to find easy but not so interesting battle. And unnecessary using every tricks and exploits to win it.

This game is more shamefull for the winner than for its unfortunate opponent who looks very sportmanship and friendly.

I could not agree with you more Stelteck. +1 to this post

Hortlund -> RE: 13 attacks 13 wins turn 11 (3/23/2017 5:52:08 PM)

Actually I wonder what the game would have looked like without that +1 Soviet attack. In my other games as the soviets, Im having enormous trouble breaking through even weak regiments, and in our game, Model just sliced through divisions.

MrLongleg -> RE: 13 attacks 13 wins turn 11 (3/23/2017 6:11:34 PM)

Your opponent is obviously not a sportsman. He is an expert at this game and still uses gamey tactics and built-in advantages. As a sportsman he would have given you a built-in advantage instead of the other way arround. Just my 2 cents...

If Model is truly Pelton, as some of the observers stated in this very same topic, then perhaps this game might be his attempt to prove a point. Perhaps a point that Soviets are too strong in this game with 1:1 rule (or too strong in general)?

Qitbuqa -> RE: 13 attacks 13 wins turn 11 (3/24/2017 3:43:47 PM)

Double post.
