javimm -> Question about AT gun in Tutorial 2 (1/4/2017 4:44:49 PM)

Hi.
I have a question about the AT gun available to the americans in the tutorial 2 scenario. After using the AT gun one time, the game says it's out of HE ammunition and I can't shoot it again.
Is this the correct behavior?. Can this AT gun be changed so it has more shots (via the scenario editor)?.
Somehow I thought that I could shoot the AT gun until it malfunctioned.
My ASL ordnance chapter C knowledge is a bit rusty though...
Thank you.
Regards.

OK. I've been doing some testing with an empty scenario and this AT gun and it seems that it depends on the actual dice roll that the HE is depleted or not.
After reading about depletion numbers in ASL chapter C and looking for the particular gun in ASL chapter H of my Yanks module, I now understand why this gun has a limited supply of HE ammo. The depletion number is 7, so sooner or later this gun will run out of HE ammo.
One question. Is there some kind of way of seeing all this info inside the game?.
Regards.

Unfortunately, there isn't. The manual states some special ammo types are available in limited numbers, but does not go any farther.

According to my game experience:
StuG IIIB and PZ IIIN (short 75) have limited AP and HEAT
StuH III, M7 and M8 HMC and SU-122 have limited HEAT
Marder III, JpZ IV, M-10, M-18, SU-85 and SU-100 have limited HE (I suppose all Tank Destroyers have this limitation - note that StuG's are NOT TD)
AT Guns have limited HE
ART/INF guns have limited HEAT
Any gun capable of firing APCR has a limited supply of it

Unfortunately, it is not clear what is the exact extent of this limited availability: as a rule, limited ammo does not last more than 1-2 shots, so do not waste it firing when you have low chances to hit (e.g. just after moving).

If it is anything like ASL then it is dice-based. You have to roll less than an availability number to be able to fire special ammo. Above it and that tank does not have that ammo. A roll equal to the number means you get just one shot with special ammo.

We are talking too much about ToTH mechanics: Don Rico Corleone [:D] is listening...

StuG III was originally designated as Assault Gun however even in the early days on the Eastern Front the StuG III was used in tank destroyer role and hence why in of 1942, the F model was introduced with 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/43 gun. At the end of 1942 the F/8 model was introduced with 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/48 gun. From 1942 until the end of the war the SutG was used in both roles as Assault Gun as well as Tank Destroyer role. The StuGs were extremely good in defensive anti-tank role.
