HermanGraf -> Winter (1/10/2017 5:30:55 PM)

I know typical noob who is probably asking the same questions that have already been answered. Sorry but the search function is no bueno and i went back about 6 pages and didn't see any winter posts. `Didn't want to go to far back since there have been numerous patches..

Ok.. Anyway now to my question...

First game to turn 23. Ive encircled a LOT of Russian units but failed to gain the real important cities... I was hoping for a weak winter offensive with the amount ive captured and enricled but time will tell.

Winter is here and looking at my units they are already suffering heavily from the first blizzards. I am holding my territories but i can tell doesn't look like for very long, especially around Moscow and leningrad which are PACKED full of sovjet armored units. I already created fortified hexes a couple miles behind the lines in the Center so i think thats probably a good start (set TOE at 70)? Not sure... I am losing about as many units as the soviets during these blizzards and they are losing a LOT in battle. What exactly do i do with the units TOE to ease the amount of losses and armaments during the first winter? I am almost out of supply vehicles! Need 150 and i have 160k. How do i ease that? I am planning to set the Leningrad Front to Static to free up vehicles, also im moving the northern panzer group back to Riga to refit and rearm. I don't want to set other units on static because i am not quite dug in as well as i am neat Leningrad.

Thanks in advance

Just a quick question- are you playing with the reduced blizzard option?

HermanGraf -> RE: Winter (1/11/2017 1:24:07 AM)

No not on reduced blizzard

This is where you find out how good of general you are. You will need to trade space for time.No
blizzard attacks. Starve the troops in the front line. Send the airforce on R/R. Concentrate on getting the supplies to the front & fixing your rail network. Toe setting up to you. Try to get your good armor & infantry, r/r in cities.

I have destroyed 368 units and the SU has suffered over 3 million men lost in a just a few months since Barbarossa started. How does that compare with other players?? Is that a good # to help me during the winter counteroffensive?

Icier -> RE: Winter (1/11/2017 9:02:06 AM)

The Russians lost 5 million @ the same time in a real war & what happened? Dont worry about
anyone else..you need to survive on what you got.

Static units actually dig in\fortify faster - so do not worry about fortification when deciding whether to go static.

@Telemecus

Ah yes true I just read that too. Well I am still pretty active on the front since I encircled a lot of units just before the blizzard. I destroyed the majority but there are still some pockets that wont give up (two turns out of supply ;/). Once they are done i'll reorganize my line. I sent the panzers of Models unit back for rest and refit at Minsk. The same will happen for the northern panzergroup once they are done cleaning up another pocket. I'll keep about 5 panzer and 4 motorized divisions to deal with any breakthrough along the front. We will see...

Set TOE of all security units low.
Waiting for the Static conditions to be met so I can free up some vehicles, I don't have enough right now
I actually moved my air force CLOSER to the front to deal with the Soviet - After one turn seemed to be pretty effective shooting down a hundred or so planes, but seems like forum consensus is to move them back and save supply.
Railheads are pretty close to the front which is good, no visible supply problems yet. Moved the Army HQs up and gave them a bunch of construction support units.
I sent the most effective combat support units to the units of army group center to hold off vs attacks (Support units also eat up a lot of supply right?) Bad move?
