StrategyGamer -> Proper amount of MPPs in a map (1/14/2017 10:22:08 PM)

What is the amount of MPPs that a certain map should have?

For instance, I am currently making a 204 x 142 map of the Eastern Front, with 10 mile hexes, and the base units are Divisions and Corps

Should I just use the base map's MPP amount for the Eastern Front? (MPPs located in the area my map covers)
Or
Should I just try to figure out the MPPs needed by another way?

The map is far from finished, but I just want to know asap so I can think about it...

Hi

It's all relative to the scale and scope of the game you've got in mind, and the cost of units, research etc that you're going to use.

For example, one of the many scenarios I made for our WWI Breakthrough release was the Battle of the Somme. It was a very small map, but with lots of units crammed into the frontlines more MPPs were required than on a larger map with a smaller unit count.

Getting the amount right also dictates the opportunities both sides have for reinforcements. Too much and they can reinforce too much (i.e. players aren't making decisions based on their priorities) but again, it depends what you're trying to achieve. There are no hard and fast rules.
