The British tanks survive the major German attack with Wavell's HQ support and the total commitment of air forces.

Kesselring's Army is disorganised, but avoids losses.

The Allies have resigned, Axis wins the game.

Thanks to everybody for reading, comments are welcome.

There have been many mistakes but I think I've been more engaged in the fine detail of the game, particularly the economics. The Italians were able to make great gains in Africa and the Middle East. Crucially, the Germans conquered European Russia and by going heavy in the south, the Caucasian oilfields too. Germany's economy is strong enough to keep producing units for the meat grinder of the Western front to hold the Allies at bay. Japan is not at all under threat.

We're going to have a return match playing opposite sides and there'll be a new AAR. Perhaps I won't sustain quite the same level of detail.

WIF_Killzone -> RE: New AAR Keith Vs Ian (7/18/2017 8:34:16 PM)

Great game and detail was good.

Think you packed it in at the right time too.

Would be good to get your impressions of key turning points, mistakes or grand strategy that bore fruit for you both.

I'm impressed the Allies kept going as long as they did. I would have resigned several turns ago!

Me too [:D]. Loved the dtail!
A few tips for when you swap sides (NOT that I think I am such a great player, but still I may notice a thing or two [;)]):

- First and Foremost: Early War allies must play to put Italians OOS at least in East Africa. This should be a reachable achievement for the allies in the south. If Axis wants to have Gibraltar/Spain, they'll get it (most of the time), but Alexandria should be kept (by putting axis OOS through Eastern Med).

-Allies should NOT let Russian production fall low. As a (sort of) rule of thumb, Russia needs production as if none of their factories/resources were lost. What they loose should be replaced by the Wallies (roughly).

-Allies must invade in force, so that Germans do not dare to think of counterattacks (which brings me to the last point);

- Axis have been extremely lucky with their dice. They repelled the allied invasions with attacks as low as +4. I personally think the axis took too much risks but got away with it, this time. Could easily have gone the other way around.

Thing to note with the last point: Each allied invasion looked rather weak, so in that perspective I can understand Germans thinking about counterattacking, although not at +4. What do I consider an invasion in force? My current Allied invasion of France counts 10 Allied corps and 6 divisions, with 9 more corps and 10 divisions waiting in transports/AMPHs for next impulse. Maybe a bit more than optimal, but to get an idea...

Curious about next AAR.

Zecke -> RE: New AAR Keith Vs Ian (9/15/2017 10:12:53 AM)

interesting AARR; without not so may BAGS (of soldiers); i always thought that the big mistake of Germans in the road to MOSKOW was not to take care of the russians soldiers caught and change his main,,give food, clothes, etc...: by that time; they also wanted (the russians prisioners at KURKS) a conqueror to tell some words to STALIN..............
