operating -> My first pc game (1/26/2017 10:12:02 AM)

Got my first computer in 2000 from Dell then went shopping at a Circuit City store (now long gone) for supplies, that's where I first came into contact with a wall of pc games on display. Always have been a fan of the Civil War, so when I spied this beautifully boxed cd game about the Civil War, thought to give this new way of gaming a try. Got home and absolutely had a blast with it, a simple fun game to play, which at the same time created a thirst for more of such gaming that continues to this day. It's been many years since playing that game, yet the experience always stayed with me. Here's the first pc game that I will never forget: (History Channel) Civil War Great Battles (price sticker still on it for $19.99 us)

my first pc didn't come with games, well not that you could go out and buy, you had to copy the magazine code in and type it all in first before you run it

My first PC game: Archon, for the Commodore 64 IIRC.

My first PC war game: Either TOAW, or JTCS Rising Sun, I don't remember exactly.

I got my first computer in 1989 and don't remember what the first game was that I played on it except that it was a text adventure. I do remember playing Larn early on and that many of my early purchases were by MicroProse, SSI, SSG, and Sierra.

wodin -> RE: My first pc game (1/26/2017 6:32:49 PM)

Beside the intellivision console which had Pac Man a football game and one were you were Indian Jones I think (found it was called Pitfall https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitfall!). Actual computer games I can remember playing when my Dad bought the BBC B are Elite, Erik the Viking, Defender, Football Manager and The Hobbit.

Wow, you guys are old [;)]

Chris Crawford's Eastern Front (circa 1982) really hooked me on wargames for the first time. Although as a kid Risk I loved.

November 8th 1995, with 3 young kids this was the firs PC game I could afford and I played the heck out of it. I still have the boxed copy somewhere in my storage area in the basement......hm might go looking for it!

First War Game I ever purchase was D Day: Thew beginning of the end (1994) by Impressions Software (not sure if I still have the boxed copy). Even though it came out before Stonekeep I could only afford one game at a time, so bought this maybe 6 months after Stonekeep. I really enjoyed this war game but now looking back, I wonder why as compared to the Avalon Hill PC Games this was no where near as good.

wodin -> RE: My first pc game (1/27/2017 4:46:31 AM)

zak I remember the magazine games..you spend hours and hours typing it in only for it not to work and then spend hours and hours trying to find what you typed in wrong..eventually you'd sort any issues and get to play..and the actual game would be awful..or even worse the magazine printed part of the code wrong so you never end up playing anything at all!! My experience was using BASIC on the BBC B

zakblood -> RE: My first pc game (1/27/2017 5:50:48 AM)

yes that's so true, even worst when in two parts, so second page was another month away, then another month for typo fixes, and yes, 2 weeks or typing and re checking, for 2 mins of utter boredom when or if it worked at the end, so yes all true, these younger ones have it easy[;)][:D]

Pvt_Grunt -> RE: My first pc game (1/27/2017 7:23:41 AM)

Franciscus -> RE: My first pc game (1/27/2017 11:23:14 AM)

My first PC game was, I think, "Tyrants of Athens", for the 48K ZX Spectrum. In 1982 or 83...

It had mind-blowing graphics for a 14 year old kid of the 80's [:D]

[image]local://upfiles/36987/C5A80CB7081543ADB3671E5773C07944.jpg[/image]

I played lots of great games in my Spectrum (all pirated copies, but bought and sold openly in legit stores...yes, the 80's...[:D] ), but then entered med school and gaming was...relegated to the back burner...[8|]

My first "IBM-like" real PC was a 80286, and my first real game on it (using I think already Windows 3.1) was Civilization, the first one...back in 1992 I think.

Great memories...[:'(]

I don't count games I may have played on work computers. When I finally got my own PC, it was the early 90's. The first game I grabbed was Aces of the Pacific:

Agathosdaimon -> RE: My first pc game (1/28/2017 1:45:38 AM)

The first computer game that i really got into was FA18 Interceptor on Amiga when i was 8 years old back in 1989

When a pentium finally came to our household - a Pentium 133 16mb ram computer in 1996, the first game that i actually got was Empire Interactive's War in the Gulf- loved it! played it as much as i could, but the final mission was ridiculously hard, in fact i have read elsewhere similar sentiments and i have never heard of anyone completing it
I also got Chronicles of the Broken Sword and Lost Eden, but point and click adventures just simply did not do it for me - it was armored land warfare games all the way - armored fist 2, then M1 Tank Platoon 2 -this was the best, i devoted far too much time to m1tp2!

goodwoodrw -> RE: My first pc game (1/28/2017 4:07:29 AM)

That was the first game I bought for my Amiga. The one thing I remember in that game was, you never were able to see another a/c just a shining dot.

lol, yes that was my experience! I was adamant that it would be possible to get closer but the enemy was always at most a dot on the horizon - i spent most of the game, flying around san fran and flying under the golden gate and then trying to just successfully land on the carrier again

i think it was part of some suite of games that came with the amiga 500 - because we had technocop, hard drivin, dogs of war, some tennis game that my sisters always played, silkworm, xenon, - i am not sure where these came from, i never saw my parents buying them, they just were there one day, maybe a friend gave them or something.
