A wonderful actor - with an unmistakable voice.

I wonder if they finished filming Darkest Hour? Hurt was down to play Neville Chamberlain...

Let's hope so.

He had the most famous case of heartburn in 1979('ish).

Indeed. I've always thought that, if one is contemplating giving birth, it is better to leave such a job to the ladies. The female of the species are, after all, equipped with the appropriate plumbing that is necessary for a successful outcome.

RIP [:(]

And he dies now that 1984 is just around the corner: "alternative facts" [sm=00000622.gif] A wise guy.

Elephant Man and playing Quentin Crisp in a UK TV series - plus Alien, of course - are what I remember him for most of all. Just a damned good actor!

Do not forget King Ralph [:D]

I first recall seeing him in 10 Rillington Place where he was superb at playing the vulnerable (and ultimately tragic) Timothy Evans [&o]

timmyab -> RE: RIP Sir John Hurt (1/28/2017 11:22:51 AM)

Awesome actor, loved him.
People have already mentioned some of his best screen work - 10 Rillington place, the naked civil servant, I Claudius and 1984.

sullafelix -> RE: RIP Sir John Hurt (1/28/2017 11:44:44 AM)

Caligula and a priest in Africa. I can't remember the second movie. but as usual he was excellent. I forgot Richard Rich.

wings7 -> RE: RIP Sir John Hurt (1/28/2017 11:48:55 AM)

Rest in Peace, John...a wonderful talent!

redcoat -> RE: RIP Sir John Hurt (1/28/2017 2:59:01 PM)

Marvelous voice. Even his TV adds sounded good. Brilliant Caligula and Elephant Man. A gentleman. RIP.

Qwixt -> RE: RIP Sir John Hurt (1/28/2017 3:00:03 PM)

RIP.

I have seen him in many movies. The link said he was 79. I always thought that he looked so old in the movies, and that he was much older.

lecrop -> RE: RIP Sir John Hurt (1/28/2017 7:03:49 PM)

RIP The best Caligula ever

Orm -> RE: RIP Sir John Hurt (1/28/2017 7:32:06 PM)

I see that he was in Rob Roy as well.

Gilmer -> RE: RIP Sir John Hurt (1/28/2017 11:51:04 PM)

He was a great actor. Terrible loss.

IslandInland -> RE: RIP Sir John Hurt (1/29/2017 7:38:46 AM)

The man was a great actor and played some iconic roles such as Kane, Joseph Merrick, Winston Smith and Quentin Crisp. I watched Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull again recently and I always forget he is in that movie.

He was also probably the last of the great hell-raising actors these islands have produced.

Cataphract88 -> RE: RIP Sir John Hurt (1/29/2017 9:02:25 AM)

Go in peace, John Hurt, you were truly one of the all time greats.

Greybriar -> RE: RIP Sir John Hurt (1/29/2017 12:36:32 PM)

Rest in peace, John. You will be missed. [:(]

Matt R -> RE: RIP Sir John Hurt (1/29/2017 9:27:10 PM)

His role in Rob Roy was my favorite.

JamesM -> RE: RIP Sir John Hurt (1/30/2017 6:40:24 AM)

Great actor with a great easily recognisable voice which was similar to Jeremy Irons.
