Kitchens Sink -> [FIXED B906.20] Problem with AAW engagement of Ambiguous Targets (Build 906.17 (2/15/2017 2:41:53 PM)

Save File Attached.

Open Save and switch to China side. About 180nm West of Kanoya, Japan some Chinese planes are on a land strike mission. The strike groups have 2 J-20 AAW escorts. The J-20's keep trying to engage a Hawkeye to the North of the strike groups, and keep missing by a large margin. The Hawkeye has a fairly large uncertainty area, but the J-20 escorts have been set to "Pessimistic" engagement of ambiguous air targets. If you switch to Gods Eye view you can see where the Hawkeye really is located, and that the J-20's are pretty far off the mark in shooting at it. Keep the game running and they will keep trying to attack the Hawkeye.

I believe this issue first arose in SR7 Build 914. Prior to SR7 release, the J-20's were much more conservative and accurate in their AAW attacks.

Is this WAD, or do I have some setting wrong somewhere? I have tried reducing WRA distance for the PL-15's, but that just makes the J-20's move in closer before missing the Hawkeye. Eventually, if I set the PL-15's to some ridiculously small value, they will realize where the Hawkeye really is, but then the usefulness of the PL-15 is greatly diminished. I also played with the escort intercept distance at which the J-20's would go after a target, but that seems like the wrong approach also.

Thanks!

New Save File Attached.

I have updated my draft scenario to 906.19 and done a deep rebuild with the new database (461), then run the scenario up to about the same point as the previous post.

The problem described in the previous post still exists. After awhile, the J-20's finally figure out the location of the Hawkeye, but not before wasting a lot of fuel and PL-15 missiles on the "Hawkeye Ghost". They also leave the strike package they are supposed to be protecting exposed while chasing the Hawkeye.

I know there may still be problems with Forum file uploads. Let me know if I need to upload somewhere else.

Thanks for taking a look at this!

Thanks, logged.

Things seem a little better with this issue with the 906.20 update. I noticed the change log for 906.20 update contained a fix for it.

It's very strange....the ambiguity area for the Hawkeye is rather small at the beginning of the scenario, but grows larger as Chinese planes get closer to it. Sort of the opposite of what I would expect to happen.

Anyway, thanks for the tweak.
