SeanSask -> MWiF allows FTR overstack after A2A abort return to base (2/19/2017 12:31:26 AM)

The attached game file shows 2 FTRs in the hex SW of Brussels. This violates stacking limits. I don't recall precisely, but I believe the FTR returned to base after choosing to abort from the A2A combat (I don't think it was a combat result abort). The "crosshairs" symbol appeared when I moved the fighter over the hex, not the "big X" symbol that normally tells you when you can't put a unit in the hex. Indeed, I was allowed to put the FTR there in violation of the stacking limits. So, not a case of the "big X" showing, and then letting me put a FTR there anyway - I definitely saw the "crosshairs".

A bit later in the impulse, MWiF will check for overstacking and on of the German FTRs will have to be destroyed.

I'm not 100% certain this is a bug, but MWiF usually checks for overstacking on the fly and normally prevents it, so if it works differently in the case of returning air units to base, that would be a bit annoying.

This is a solitaire game with the 2.03.04 beta release.

EDIT: the file in this post can't be downloaded. I've re-attached it to post #8 of this thread.

I could not download your file.

Steve said he had trouble uploading the new patch, so you might be having the same problem.

Try editing and upload it again.

I was going to give it a try with 2.3.5 before updating to 2.3.6, but will try it on my game.

I think that for the abort, it may be legal to overstack until the disrupted plane gets destroyed, but have not checked for a rule on that yet.

In ROC 2.3.1, it states that "Sacking apples at the end of every step and after advance after combat. You cannot voluntarily oversack but if it happens (e.g. due to liberation), the owner of the hex must destroy enough of the oversacked units to compay with the stacking limits. You must destroy organized units before disorganized units.

Could it be there is an HQ or an Eng in the hex with the 2 FTRs?

In this case, MWiF prevented me from rebasing the FTR in every other fully stacked hex nearby (the 'X' cursor appeared as I moved the air unit around from hex to hex), but for some reason it let me overstack in the hex SW of Brussels (the 'crosshairs' cursor appeared, which normally means you can go ahead put the unit there).

MWiF normally won't let you voluntarily overstack anything - not even temporarily overstacking land units during movement (which is normally allowed in a table top game because the stacking limits are not enforced until the end of the land movement step, not at the end of each individual unit's movement)

No HQ or Eng. If you proceed with game from where I saved it, the game will eventually prompt you to destroy one of the FTRs.

I still can not access your file. I get an error message.

I tried to create a similar case with both 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 and it behaved normally.

I get an error message when I want to download this file too. I think something is wrong with the forums, since the message is that it cannot find the page asked for in the forums...

The trick to uploading files is to post your message without any attachments. Then edit the post and add the file you want to upload. This is a new problem at Slitherine/Matrix and hopefully they will fix it sometime soon.

I'll edit this post and try to re-upload my attachment.

EDIT: OK, it looks like the file can be downloaded now.
