Auchinleck -> Who's doing the spelling? Winnie the Pooh? (2/24/2017 1:57:36 PM)

Kennedy-'Chrušcev' confrontation???

Never saw Premier Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev's name spelled that way in any of the history books. Or anywhere else for that matter.

Just for clarity, that is not the Italian spelling of the name (that would be Krusciov, or Kruscioff) but it is the spelling based on the so called Scientific Transliteration (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_transliteration_of_Cyrillic ), a transliteration system for Cyrillic letters that is mostly used in academic publications.

"Khrushchev" is a better way to translterate Nikita's Segeyevich's last name into English. Believe me I know, I have been fluent in Russian for over 20 years.

Here is a better wikipedia transliteration table to use:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanization_of_Russian

There are different systems for transliterating Russian into English. Some are more popular that others.

Looks like you guys were using the "scholarly" column in the table which is old system based on the Czech language. No one uses that in English speaking countries - at least since the 20th century :)

I would recommend using either the GOST (Russian standard) 2002(B) column or one of the Passport columns ( they are almost identical). The latest passport column is probably the best one to use today.

Cheers!
