Perfectionistul -> (5/2/2003 2:36:45 AM)

I bet 100$ that the shown Pz.V knocked out a dozen of Shermans before its own crew destroyed it so that it won't fall in the enemy's hands. (after it broke down) :p

Hawk -> Hmmmmmm (5/2/2003 2:41:49 AM)

I think it's Medication time again!!!!!:eek:

A Dead Panther is a Dead Panther......in my book....;) ;) ;)

Orzel Bialy -> Better to die in battle... (5/2/2003 2:55:30 AM)

after slaying many foes...than to get scared after seeing a Kat coming down the street, panic and then drive into a building... and have to run away on foot!

Orzel Bialy -> Besides... (5/2/2003 3:16:03 AM)

it's not just us Kat lovers that have doubts about the M4 being a great fighting machine. :p

Hawk -> HEYYYYYYYYYYYY (5/2/2003 3:16:07 AM)

Who took a picture of my Tank at my last 1 on 1 lost to Jimmy ...:mad: :mad: :mad:
That's "NOT RIGHT" Orzel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Orzel Bialy -> Hee hee hee... (5/2/2003 3:21:45 AM)

remember that old woman pushing a cart of potatoes down the side of the road...she was really a spy! lol :p ;) :D

Wild Bill -> (5/2/2003 3:55:38 AM)

Did any of you see the WW2 film clip when an M-26 engaged a Panther in some narrow streets of some German town?

Really something. You see the Pershing fire, see the Panther hit and watch the crew bailing out in a hurry as it catches fire.

Its probably the only clip I've ever seen that captures the entire happening. Quite impressive!

Wild Bill

Orzel Bialy -> Yes... (5/2/2003 4:15:34 AM)

It was on the history channel last month...a Panther was rampaging about the shattered streets of Cologne. It knocked out a Sherman that went after it...then took off towards the famous Cathedral.
A Pershing was called in and began stalking the Panther...and found it sitting broadside at the end of a street. Three shots from the 90mm gun finished off the Panther and most of its crew.
It was pretty impressive footage, I must admit.

Wild Bill -> (5/2/2003 6:17:53 AM)

Yep! That was it....WB

Orzel Bialy -> Here are some stills... (5/2/2003 7:59:12 AM)

from that famous film clip....

The Pershing (Sgt Robert Early is on the left and
John Deriggi is on the right) arrives after a Sherman is knocked out...

it swings around the corner and spots the Panther sitting at the end of the street...it's gun aimed right at the M26. It fires on the run in order to avoid taking the first round...

this first round hits home...and, as the crew abandons the striken panzer, the Pershing fires two more to make sure the job is done...(the streak of the second round slamming into the panther is visible in this shot...

the Panther bursts into an inferno after the third and final round and would burn all night according to the soldiers that were there...

Wild Bill -> (5/2/2003 10:44:57 AM)

YES! Great stuff, my friend. Thanks for clipping these...WB

Hawk -> WoW!!!!! (5/2/2003 10:55:08 AM)

Orzel i didn't know you worked in the Movies...:eek: :eek: :eek:

Orzel Bialy -> Glad you liked the show... (5/2/2003 11:06:04 AM)

I like bringing stories to life the best I can. ;)

stevemk1a -> (5/2/2003 11:12:39 AM)

That looks like a facinating film sequence. does anyone remember the program that it was in? ... I've got the history channel, but I think it's a Canadian version, and I don't remember ever seeing that clip before ...

Orzel Bialy -> Correct me if I'm wrong Wild Bill... (5/2/2003 11:19:46 AM)

but wasn't it a program about American armor in WW2?

I remember that there was a lot of interviews with M4 drivers (sorry Jess, not making this up) and repair crews who talked about how the guys in the field wanted a better tank once they found out they were riding around in outclassed AFV's.

I want to say it was a program based on the book "death traps" but I can't remember for sure. Sorry I can't be more precise...perhaps someone else will remember the name of the program.

Perhaps the Katz Krew should have a slogan (reffering to the Sherman Sissies), "Friends don't let friends drive junk." :)

Wild Bill -> (5/2/2003 9:36:33 PM)

I've seen it in more than one episode or series on the History Channel. It is about the only clip that shows the methodical destruction of one tank by another.

But for the life of me, I can't remember which ones they were! Sorry, Willie!

I'm sure Orzel can help you here...

Very moving scene...

No, what happened was they were on a strudel break and the meal caught fire.

I have seen one of those US TD's, perhaps an M36, firing and watching the shell go for approximately 100 yds. before it hit what look to be a stationary tank of some sort, all on-sreen. You sure don't see many WWII shots of battle, or mock-battle, where you actually see the shell in flight. I think if you found lots of clips of naval shelling from the target's view you'd see quite a bit of shell path before the hit. I wonder if the round being low-velocity has a lot to do with that? I doubt you'll ever see a Panther or Tiger shot with the shell seen.

Wild Bill -> (5/3/2003 1:55:51 AM)

Thanks Orzel! Yes, it was a program about the Sherman tank being just that, a death trap. I'm sure that you are right about that. I taped that program and have it here somewhere in my pile of tapes collected from the HIstory Channel. I must have about 50 of them.

I'd rather tape them as they appear than pay the now $24.95 to buy them. Call me "frugal." ;)

The tight-fisted, fixed-income Kunel

Hawk -> LOL Wild Bill (5/3/2003 2:18:53 AM)

I use to tape everything from the History Channel to PBS specials.......the key thing is to make sure your "Wife" doesn't tape over them......:eek: :eek: :mad:

Huffy -> (5/4/2003 6:51:48 PM)

Yes....I saw that clip also....pretty neat footage...

BAAHAHAHAHAA! :D :D

Another great punchline from you, Bernie!

Karnaaj -> (5/5/2003 11:43:21 AM)

Don't recall the name of the program, but the time I saw it was one of their week-long "theme" sets; "Weapons and Warriors" or somesuch. I can't remember what else was featured, might have been B-17s and subs, but I do remember the kill, and the discussion on how vulnerable the Sherman really was.

A quick dig through the History Channel site gives a listing for the BATTLE STATIONS videos:

Drawing on the vast resources of Britain's world famous Imperial War Museum, BATTLE STATIONS tells the stories of four such machines and the battles in which they proved their worth: the Dakota transport plane and D-Day; the Sherman tank and the breakout from Normandy; the Spitfire fighter and the Battle of Britain; and the "Duck" amphibious vehicle and the crossing of the Rhine.

Kanon Fodder -> (5/6/2003 11:35:18 PM)

If I remember right it was a two-hour show on the Third Armored Division.

I used to tape all kinds of stuff from PBS, A & E and The History Channel, but the shows get repeated so much these days that I find I never get around to watching what I have taped.
