As an Allied player, I certainly do hate the IJN 2e bombers, but again, as long as something is flying overhead, they pretty much leave my TFs alone. I've seen them fly all the way from Rabaul to hit an non-CAP supply convoy running between Townsville and Cairns. Worked over my freighters pretty good. But a half squadron of ThrowAways (Wirraways) flying overhead, and I've never had that problem again. Even convoys shuttling to PM, as long as they're under CAP from Cairns and PM, they're good. As the TF get closer to PM, my opponent can attempt to saturate the CAP with his own land-based fighters, and his 2e bombers will attack under these circumstances. But again, if I have CAP, and outside of escort range, I don't see them over my TFs very often. But that was my "objective" during the last month of my PBEM game, was to reduce my opponent's abilty to launch his 2e bombers. He had actually been able to push then as far south as Lunga and Buna, and was hitting convoys alont the coast of Australia and aroudn Luganville. I probably lost 15 merchants the previous month in "mundane" convoys, because his 2e bombers were having a field day. My fighters were stressed, just trying to fly CAP for the more critical convoys, but still, 15 merchants in a month was unacceptable. So I took the offensive and coordinated my bombardment TFs and own 4e bombers vs. his AFs. It's taken a month, but I've beaten his 2e bombers back to Rabaul, and all of his "front line" AFs are unusable in any capacity (so they're not providing escort fighters either). But I had to clear out his 2e bombers before being able to begin conducting offensive amphibious operations (and the resupply of those ops). -F-
