davidshq -> Feature Request: Optional Modification to AI Turns (3/14/2017 10:26:41 PM)

You guys implemented the ability to list everything that happened in the previous turn in a previous release and it is still present in this one - for this you have my great appreciation!

That said, I have an idea for improving the AI turn experience.

I don't know about everyone else, but for me, one of the things I like about turn-based games is that I can take a turn, then go do something else, and then come back again - e.g., I might stay in the same place but send a text or two on my phone or I might go get something to eat, or I may read from a book I'm currently working through.

Now one can do this safely with SC3, thanks to the awesome feature I mentioned earlier, but it is still tempting to just sit in front of the screen and watch the AI play. It gives insight into the AI's strategy, helps you notice things that aren't otherwise reported (e.g. attacks that damage but don't destroy units).

If the AI moved instantaneously this wouldn't be an issue - but the AI takes a while, so one sits there waiting for a few seconds sometimes between actions (I suppose this also depends greatly on one's computer, I'm using an older but powerful laptop).

I don't want to see the AI dumbed down to make things more expedient, I'd love to see it even grow deeper in its ability - but this is constrained by how long one has to wait between AI moves, e.g., I expect at some point individuals would stop watching / playing if it took a minute or five between each AI move.

So, now that I have written my novel, let me actually get down to the feature...

I'd recommend an option (some people, maybe most people, will prefer the way it currently operates) that allows one to turn on a delayed viewing experience - e.g., instead of moving units as the AI makes a decision, instead process the AI moves and results and then display the results...and now there need be no gap between the AI moves when viewing...and no need to sit around watching the screen while the AI is doing its thinking.

This could be extended so that one could also replay the last turn...but that would be icing on top of the cake.

Dave
