JagWars -> I did not realize that I was a Newbe (3/25/2017 3:17:04 AM)

I have been playing the board game since 1986. I was in international sales and had a customer in Australia. Knowing that I was a war-game enthusiast, he sent me one as a gift.
I and the dozen or so others that I game with became hooked and have been playing WiF on and off ever since. One of the problems with playing with a closed group is that once every one has decided they know the rules, rules interpretations become fixed and rarely changed. This is particularly so when you play the same game for an extended period of time. One in the group becomes the rules expert and is rarely challenged.
And so it has become with WiF.
I bought MWIF as soon as it was available. I was not so much interested in the game as I was the maps. I never liked that China was on a different scales. It just did not seem to work right, particularly with the air units.
Myself and three others tried to play MWiF when first release and gave up because of all of the bugs and crashes and screen freezes. A few weeks ago I bought a 60 inch 4K monitor and convinced them to give it another try. It did not work as well as I had hoped, so we went back to the two 32 inchers. We have four keyboards and four mouse(s)(I know that the plural is mice, but somehow that does not seem to fit the description of multiple computer mouse units).
Of course none of that is really relevant except that I have already asked rules question three times in the last two weeks.
1st-garrison values for Italian surrender. Our group decided long ago that the ZOC language applied only to breaking agreements and partisans since the Italian surrender rules do not specifically state that.
2nd-saved Free French BPs were not being used by the production system; they were not being stored in the capital. We should have known this one, but over the years we had come to rather ignore the difference between BPs in the capital and those stored elsewhere.
3rd - Even though the Germans have conquered Lithuania, Kaunas (its capital) is not recognized as a secondary supply source for Germany.

Now I have a 4th question.
The Brits are trying to use the Harrow in the UK to transport the Para company on the coast of France back to the UK. However, when the Brit hovers the Harrow over the hex with the Para Company, the game states that there are no valid targets in the Hex. All four of us have read the pertinent rules several times each and cannot discern what we are missing.

4th - supply rules intricacies. [:)]

For this one, it could be action limits. Do you have land moves left? If that's not it, then post a saved game.

Another possibility is the hex is overstacked aircraft-wise. You have to be able to land in the hex to do the ATR mission.

Saved game file for above question.

Checked the save - you have no land moves left. Each ATR mission requires one air and one land move. (Sometimes more than one land move with Large ATRs)

Thank you. Yes you are correct, the Brit has no land moves since he took a Naval action.

Playing the SCS Transport option? If memory serves, that hex is a port and a spare CA or CL (if playing CLiF) could do the job. But I guess it's too late for this impulse.

Jaguar, there is a reason my signature is what it is....

I would say that you are not a newbe at all, but you've come across the harsh principle of MWIF enforcing rules you never thought about (or misunderstood). I've had exactly the same experience when I joined this club...

JagWars -> RE: I did not realize that I was a Newbe (3/26/2017 1:04:53 AM)

Yes, that is why we are attempting to play via the computer. All too often someone makes a mistake which is not immediately recognized.
Then we all have to decide whether to go back and try to rectify the mistake or just accept that it is too late. Frequently someone in the group is unhappy with the decision.
Of course, we do not know how many mistakes are made without detection. As pointed out, the advantage of MWiF is that it forces you to adhere to the rules.

JagWars -> RE: I did not realize that I was a Newbe (4/3/2017 4:40:52 PM)

I am probably overlooking something again.
I am trying to debark the 4.5 UK howitzer and the London Militia unitx into Boulogne France, but I receive a message that it will not meet Foreign Troop Commitment requirements. The CW chose Combine as their action and have moved no units during the Land Movement phase. HQ Gort is in NW France and HQ Wavell is in S. France. There are currently only two CW non-HQ units in France. Therefore it seems to me that I should be able to add two more CW units into France. I shall send a game file.

Saved game file for Foreign Troop Commitment issue.

Nevermind, I saved the game, restored the game and was able to debark the units into N. France.
