Zigurat666 -> database was updated message (4/8/2017 12:21:05 PM)

This appeared when I loaded a turn. Not sure if that is a version update or a change using the editor? How can I tell?
Is there a way to compare the database before and after that message appeared?

It usually means that the Japanese player made a change in the editor. Ask him....GP

I''ll try and translate that:

The previous time this save turn was loaded, someone got a message saying words to the effect "make database changes from updated scenario database file". And pressed Y or clicked yes.

There are two ways this could occur, to my knowledge, although this may be an incomplete list.

1. There has been a patch applied. The patch included an amended scenario database file, being the one for the scenario you are playing. Being official in nature, no problemo.

2. Similarly, if you edit the scenario database file - and effective edits that will carry over are limited to the ship class and aircraft type databases, and maybe some scenario info like PP daily PP accrual (could be an incomplete list) - and then load a save game playing that scenario - you get asked if you want the updates.

I am not sure if there are other ways this can occur, and further have not seen this in a PBEM situation.

Short point - you can't edit a save file, or individual ships, but you can edit the scenario file, and e.g. alter a ship class to 999 deck armour and 15 x 16" guns - and it will get passed on to ships of that class in the save of a game using that scenario, at least playing the AI.

It's also important to note that if this is a stock scenario you are playing, that these are not "unauthorized edits" being applied because players can't save the stock scenarios in the same slot (although they could rename the file maybe...). The most likely case is when playing on a different machine than you last played - you may not have the same scenario data, typically because of Andy's unofficial updates or by having an older (or newer) version of the scenario on that machine.

Well I play on the same pc all the time. I'm just waiting for a response from my opponent to see if he has any input into it

So this is the reply from my opponent. Would the two maps instances have something to do with it?

"I had saved the game, came back to it and it asked to update the file. I said yes assuming I was suppose to do so.

It is the same game, no changes, since we started. I can only assume it asks every time I load from save as opposed to run the turn. Certainly no changes have been made (although I did create another version of the game with an extended map - so that I can run regular and extend games but that is a completely different game)"
