which I have just noticed that airbases now have. What does it do and what are the costs and benefits of changing it?

If you are happy to manually assign and send to national air reserve airgroups you can ignore it. If you want to micromanage the airforce less it is a semi-automatic way of having airgroups assigned to and from national reserve. I have not used it myself as I prefer to do it manually, but I think in theory you can set how many airgroups a base will get and what sort of range they have, press move and the AI will do it for you. There are no points costs, and the only other cost I can think of is that the AI may not be as good at choosing airgroups, either for the supplies in base leaving some damaged or for your operations. The benefits are less micromanagement for yourself. Personally as an Axis player I do not see much benefit, but perhaps with all the aviation the Soviets have it is a blessing?

Thanks Telemecus. It is therefore something I can ignore.

So you are a micromanager! [:)]

If you want to send all airgroup of an airfield to reserve, it is easier to set commitment to zero, than click on "move" instead of manually sending each airgroup one by one. The interface have some limited use to avoid clicks in situation like this.

More of a control freak than a micro-manager I think, though the distinction is often a fine one. I just know what I want my a/f to do, with what types of aircraft and where I want it done.

Aren't we all of us here? [;)]

100% overall Population
5% micromanagers
1% dedicated micromanagers Here people begin to play WitE
0.1% Very dedicated micromanagers Some of those people manually manage the airforce/support units.
0.01% Ultra micromanagers. This are the guys who manually set a TOE for every single unit.

So I'm in the 0.1% group...

Oh dear. I'm a part-time member of the 1 in 10,000 group

How do u manare the national air reserve. I justo use ti to send fatigued groups to recover or perhaps increpase exp by training. Anything else?

Telemecus -> RE: And what is 'aviation committment' (4/26/2017 2:06:07 PM)

Before the rule change you needed to send air groups to reserve for manual swaps. While you can do that in the field now, it is still best done in reserve to not use airbase resources, or have to have the aircraft stay unused on an airbase for a whole turn and also get damaged/fatigued with airbase moves.

National reserve increases morale, including a one-off for just going there. So it is also useful to put low morale groups there, or even have your whole air-force on continual rotation in and out of reserve.

Also, if you are in the 1 in 10,000 group, it is another way of transporting the air-force without using trucks or fuel. Moving airbases with aircraft is the worst case. Moving forward an empty airbase and then air transferring forward air-groups is much more efficient. But if you are rotating air-groups in and out of reserve (to get the one-off morale boost each time), you are also moving your air-force along with the front at no use of resources at all.

National Reserve can also help repair damaged planes as it is always in perfect supply and support whereas your airbases might not be.
