Maglio -> Help with new Laptop (4/20/2017 10:04:43 PM)

Hello All.

I´ve been out of the game for 6 months and I'm resumming operations since I have a couple of weeks of convalescence afther an operation.
However, I got a new Laptop and I haven´t been able to configure the game properly, It runs really slooooooooow.
The procesor is a Intel i7-6500U of 2,6 GHz.(Quad core)
Windows 10 Home 64 bits in Spanish.
Graphics procesor AMD Radeon R7 M360 1 GHz.

Any advice on how to configure the game to run fine on planning phase?

Go to the tech support forum and look up the thread on win 10 for the switch combos used. Some jumbling of different switches may be necessary for your machine.

See this thread in the Tech Support section. It covers just about every problem anyone has had with Win10 and/or new equipment/game patches, etc.
There should also be a sticky that describes all the switches you MIGHT need to put in your shortcut to get the game to run quickly.

IM(H)O use Win7 if possible - it is rock stable and the game runs perfect on it also on "older" hardware. I have eg. at the WITPAE PC an intel 2 dual core 2.2 with 2 GB ram. Get a cheap Win7 from Ebay and make a 2nd OS just for the game (or fickle with Win10 anyones own choice for sure)[:D] Edit, it is 2.0 ghz proc, but I have 2 others with 2.6 lying around, but 2.0 seems fast enough for game and internet.

Edit2, Maglio: Googled your cpu, it is also possible you need to disable/configure certain new features of it in the BIOS. Could be the "newer" features might be not compatible with "older" software anymore or slow those programs down (what you experience!)

From intels site, lots of new features unheard of when WITP was developed and tested: try disabling them first perhaps it sloves the slow downs already.

Any processor over 1 GHz is fast enough, but you do need lots of RAM memory to hold all the data being processed during a turn, and a very good video card with speed and lots of VRAM. There may not be much animation in the turn, but when you are scrolling around the map with layers of effects (clouds, night, hex detail) and oodles of icons (TFs, troops, airfields, ports, mines), the video card must redraw the map and all its detail every hex you shift it L-R/U-D.

Alpha77 -> RE: Help with new Laptop (4/21/2017 12:13:10 PM)

BB fanboy, exactly. I noted 1 GB RAM is definatly too low, not only for the game but gererally for Win7. But 2GB already (4GB wont hurt I guess) does the trick. Yes, your video needs to capable of good and fast 2D operations - 3D not so much. Basically a good on board chip like the sys I listed above is enough. But I would recommend too an AMD chip (or even better if you can get the older ones when it was still ATI) genererally it was said the pic quality is a bit better than nvidia. But that is knowledge from up 2011-2012. I lost interest in hardware after that, cause the "older" stuff I am running does everything I need. One of the best pic qualities it was said had the ati 8xxx and 9xxx series - but also HD4xxx - HD6xxx are ok (not informed about newer cards).
