Currently playing scenario 30 from DBB against the AI

Into 1946 as I wanted to see an endgame and also to use all the cool allied toys. Who doesn't want to have Tempests, P80s and RN monitors?

Problem is with Midway and FDR. They have a whopping air group (137) but despite my best efforts one of the corsair squadrons of 36 planes resolutely stays in reserve. I have reduced numbers in the dive bomber and torpedo squadrons to no avail. Effectively they seem to operate as an Essex with an extra squadron in reserve?

I appreciate that in WiTPae terms this might be called a 'first world problem' but answers gratefully received!

I have no experience with the Midway class, but I wonder if that fighter squadron is a VRF (replenishment) one?

Also, the limit for operating squadrons on a CV in the game is five groups, no matter what size. So if that fighter squadron is a sixth group it would be treated as a squadron being transported, not part of the CAG.

Haven't gotten to that point ever.[:D] One thing I do know is that a carrier in the game can't operate more than 5 groups. Is that it?(SWAG)

Form the CV into a TF and do a short cruise and disband, the sqn will then start to fill out. (I think this is a bug, but my tactic works in Downfall scenarios)

If this doesnt work try plan B, land the sqn and rebase a land based VF Sqn on board.

What JeffK said seems to have worked with Midway and also incidentally upgraded her 2nd Corsair squadron to Tigercats!

Will repeat with FDR

Rustyi, I'm going to posit for this thread that the problem is that a carrier can't operate more than 5 groups.

Strange to upgrade a 1E to a 2E. I would have thought they would upgrade to Bearcats.

Actually, they never put Tigercats on carriers operationally. There were just too many problems with it. They should be land based like the first F4U.

The problem isnt 5 Sqns.

In Downfall, all CV have their VF sqns set at 18 aircraft.
You can resize but nothing changes.
Therefore you resize, sent them for a sail around the Marianas, maybe smash Truk and RTB and disband.
Magically they then resize and await filling out, which for some reason has to be done in 2 bites due to the 12 aircraft limit.
