IslandInland -> Wars Across The World (5/5/2017 9:07:30 AM)

This has popped up on Steam.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/341040/Wars_Across_The_World/

I was quite interested in it when I first heard about it but on closer inspection it looks pretty simplistic and very Risk-like.

zakblood -> RE: Wars Across The World (5/5/2017 9:12:11 AM)

seems more of a buy part game and then buy again for a DLC clickfest, but no idea on what it plays like either

seems battles across the world may have been a better title as well, as there not war's covered as such, just battles in a given time frame

Greybriar -> RE: Wars Across The World (5/5/2017 10:10:15 AM)

The developer has made a recent post on the Steam forum that may be of interest to those who are considering purchasing or who have already purchased Wars Across the World:

quote:

ORIGINAL: Strategiae
Pricing and DLC Policy

Hi All

It semes we have made some wrong assumptions when designing or release offer and that created justified upset on the community.

We are at the moment checking with the publisher the changes required, but here are the great lines:

1 - Expanded Collection: the name was poorly chosen by us and we will make it contain all the classic and expanded DLCs, as people assumed that would be the case

NB: for those who bought already, Steam will upload automatically the missing scenarios and you should get them with the next update.

2 - DLCs: we put everything in the list, but due to the scope of them, the addition reached a financial amount that has looked frightening. Indeed, some DLCs added up in the price while they were already in packs, doubling up of sorts, so the unecessary ones will be removed (as already in the packs). And we'll make a a launch promotion on the extras to keep the tally low. (see 3 below too)

3 - Special Release Bundle: we are checking right now with Steam and publisher to make a special release bundle that will include everything, with an adapted price.

We hope this will clarify a bit the situation which we did not anticipate as being hard to grasp. That's the usual issue when a team is so much inside its project that it fails to see the point of view of outsiders. Plus the fact we are kind of 'newbies' here and not fully aware of the market's behaviors and habits.

Of course, while our publisher works on that point, the team stays focused on checking gameplay and issues that may be found.

Thanks for your understanding.

RodyMetal -> RE: Wars Across The World (5/5/2017 1:02:04 PM)

To be honest if they want to charge this much for each battle, the base game should be free with some battles just as command ops 2 guys did, if people really like the game mechanics they wont have problem in paying 4euro for a battle they like to play. Anyway I am still skeptical about the game that it will be suitable for any period or any size unless it has very simple rules that works fine for anything.

zakblood -> RE: Wars Across The World (5/5/2017 1:10:20 PM)

i've just skipped through the manual, and it seems the rules are quite simple, and only alter for later war times, with most being quite easy to pick up, yes not a in depth approach by any means, but will wait and see what a few video of it is atm before delving in any deeper myself either

Qwixt -> RE: Wars Across The World (5/5/2017 1:52:25 PM)

One guy was comparing it to risk. My initial impression was not favorable after looking at the list of DLC and when finding out how little it contains. I need to some some gameplay vids.

Charly G -> RE: Wars Across The World (5/12/2017 1:32:31 PM)

Anyone has tested this game system ?

Poopyhead -> RE: Wars Across The World (5/12/2017 6:42:39 PM)

I found this:

and it looks like I'll pass on this card game.

bernette2 -> RE: Wars Across The World (7/12/2017 9:52:19 AM)

I am curious about that too.

Red2112 -> RE: Wars Across The World (7/12/2017 10:06:44 AM)

From what I have seen on a recent video yesterday...

- Risk like with a twist.

- Each download (extension) is about 1hr-1:30hr (€5). of gameplay, others (€10) around 2:30hrs.

- Each download on it´s own cost about €5-10.

Quite expensive if you add the extension and the gameplay time given overall.

SteveD64 -> RE: Wars Across The World (7/23/2018 4:11:09 PM)

I just picked this up and so far like what I see. Granted I've only played the First Punic War scenario but there is enough depth to the gameplay for me to recommend it.

It is much deeper than Risk. Supply, Leadership and Morale are all important. There are sieges, cavalry pursuit (and armor breakthroughs if you're playing with tanks). There are random events and card play to influence events. Apparently the AI was pretty bad when it came out but it's been improved from what I see. For 10 dollars it's a good bargain.

benpark -> RE: Wars Across The World (7/24/2018 12:06:30 PM)

It is like an AGEoD game, but focused on one particular action, rather than an entire war. I like it for quick games, plus it covers lots of odd battles and time-frames not often seen in wargames. I like it for what it is.

My one fix for it would be to round out supply. It's too easy to eliminate units by cutting them off. Makes sense for month long scenarios per turn, but not shorter ones in every case.

demyansk -> RE: Wars Across The World (7/24/2018 1:01:25 PM)

I dislike all the dlc stuff, I just lose interest and move onto another game, except panzer Korps - play everyday

Capitaine -> RE: Wars Across The World (7/24/2018 2:46:50 PM)

1) It's only $9.99
2) For that price you get a basic package of around a dozen campaigns (not exactly battles, but opns)
3) That's a dollar or less a battle.
4) The game is pretty sophisticated; not beer and pretzels. Logistics and command play large roles.
5) It has historical units/oob with varying stats; not "Risk" lol
6) The AI is pretty solid

demyansk -> RE: Wars Across The World (7/24/2018 3:42:16 PM)

Good point ten bucks is really not much even for a few hours of enjoyment

Rosseau -> RE: Wars Across The World (7/25/2018 3:02:13 AM)

I like it (of course) because you can mod the heck out of the .json scenario files. Doing that kept me busy on Berlin 1945 for many hours. But that's not a battle of maneuver, so can't comment on the AI's prowess quite yet. However, I did lose as Soviets unmodded.

Alan Sharif -> RE: Wars Across The World (7/28/2018 8:25:32 AM)

I have this game, and really enjoy it. You can buy the DLC's on sale very cheaply on occasions. I stocked up during the recent summer sale. Many of the subjects covered have never been simulated on PC before. Do not be fooled by the rules looking simple. This is a clever design that deserves support, IMO.
