Oh dear...I appear to have soiled myself in all the excitement...[:D]

When 400,000 men can't get home, call the poor b****** otherwise known as the Royal Navy again....and again... and again [:(][&o][&o]

Thanks for posting - can't wait for this [:)].

Let's hope that geezer from One Direction doesn't make it though [:D]

Were those the guys in all those small craft lining the Dunkirk shores evacuating the troops? I didn't realize that the Royal Navy had so many 'auxiliaries' in civilian clothing. [:'(]

Surely those Spitfires must have been RNAF aircraft? Cause it looked like they really came to the rescue too. [:'(]

In spite of the deserved elbow to 'ole Warspite1, I think this looks like it has the hallmarks of a really good movie too. [8D]

I didn't say the RAF were not there, or the little ships for that matter. However, it was the RN that made the difference and got the bulk of the troops off - and suffered accordingly.

LarryP -> RE: New Dunkirk Trailer (5/5/2017 10:36:32 PM)

Looks like an excellent and realistic movie. Will surely watch this one. Thanks! [&o]

demyansk -> RE: New Dunkirk Trailer (5/6/2017 1:01:34 AM)

I would like to see a movie of June 22,1941. I watched the Katyn movie and that was a good one but sad.

Alan Sharif -> RE: New Dunkirk Trailer (5/6/2017 10:21:08 PM)

They're not skimping on publicity, at least.

Neilster -> RE: New Dunkirk Trailer (7/18/2017 3:37:48 AM)

Where's Meyer1? He wrote this in a previous thread about the movie.

"As for the movie, you know is gonna suck."

He seemed so sure...based on ESP or something.

Cheers, Neilster

+1 on Darkest Hour - it was to be John Hurt's last film (playing Chamberlain) but he was too ill to film and his place taken by Ronald Pickup.

elxaime -> RE: New Dunkirk Trailer (7/19/2017 8:30:07 PM)

Sounds like a great movie and looking forward to seeing it. And certainly a great moment in history for the UK/Commonwealth forces of all arms.

But I do hope they give at least a nod to the contributions of the French forces, particularly the French First Army which fought on at Lille to cover the retreat. From the wiki:

"In his celebrated book The Second World War (1949), Winston Churchill described the Allied defence of Lille as a "splendid contribution" which delayed the German advance for four days and allowed the escape of the British Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk."

"William L. Shirer wrote in 1969 that the "gallant" defence of Lille "helped the beleaguered Anglo-French forces around the port to hold out for an additional two to three days and thus save at least 100,000 more troops"."

balto -> RE: New Dunkirk Trailer (7/20/2017 1:27:57 AM)

Going to see that Saturday. Should be great because it is mostly no-name British actors which is generally a sign of a 5 star movie. If it sucks I do not care, movies are an excuse to go out and eat popcorn and pizza.
