Just a quick question on how quickly German/Russians units can gain/lose morale through combat (above the NM) with the current patch level.
This used to be a real pain in the behind.
Although it's probably less important now as it seems that 80+ Morale inf also only spends 2 movement points through enemy territory.

I would simply run tests to get a feeling. A formula can't be given as there are many random elements I think.

Historically Grigsby typically has many random number variables in both the numerator and denominator of any formula. Hence a wide range of results limited by the formula. Early game rulebooks contained the combat formula; such remain hidden in later games.

Appreciate the feedback. Just ran some tests and also read the relevant rules sections and it seems pretty ok.
I have to say though, with the 80MR units also paying just 2Mvpts to enter enemy territory the GHC has gained a serious amount of extra
mobility.

I was flabbergasted when I saw the South opening's these days, versus the common (and difficult) normal Lvov opening in the old days.
Now I know why.

T1 movement cost is independant of morale. Always 2MPs for clear hexagon IIRC?

morvael -> RE: Unit morale (proficiency) recovery (5/18/2017 6:20:27 AM)

Not through recently captured hexes.

Edit: yes, there are some bonuses on T1.

EwaldvonKleist -> RE: Unit morale (proficiency) recovery (5/18/2017 6:55:51 AM)

Checked this always 2MPs for pending/enemy hexagons for divisions, regs and bats pay the extra price. I think it was never different?
So at glvaca: The better opening these days are not result of rule changes, but of players mixing different ideas into a super opening.

The confusion might be that it was always 2MPs for the best morale units - but in old versions that meant over 85 morale whereas now it is 80. That is aside from T1 special rules.

morvael -> RE: Unit morale (proficiency) recovery (5/18/2017 1:40:43 PM)

80 for non-motorized, 85 for motorized still. Motorized units are not really faster when advancing in enemy territory, so it's more about time and not speed. In this regard infantry was penalized because 1/16 is higher penalty than 1/50. It's not fully balanced now either, but it was a slight reduction of infantry penalty.

yes, when the game came out till I stopped playing, the Morale movement penalties applied also in T1.
As pointed out that made the 86+ morale units so important.
My very early observation is that it helps the German to some extent on T1, will give the German an additional edge in the first year(s) of the war but will help the Soviet player later on. Will be interesting to see how this evolves. I did notice it is very easy to get to the NM through combat but not so easy to get higher (above 85) with infantry (although Motorized/Panzer units below 90 race up).

Anyway, good change!

My first impression is that game has gotten a _lot_ better since I stopped playing. Mo more senseless loss of AP's when assigning SU to units, very reasonable AP's when re-assigning Divs to other Corps, and I only scratched the surface!

Congrats to the team who took over!

glvaca -> RE: Unit morale (proficiency) recovery (5/20/2017 7:24:45 AM)

Follow-up question, is the morale rating of the Corps commander (and up) used in calculating Morale increase through combat?
