Yesterday, I caught a glimpse of a Polish TV documentary about the Barbarossa campaign of 1941. Standard wartime footage unfolded, with a wing(?) of He-111 level bombing some target in Russia. Out of boredom I started counting bombs being dropped from the internal bay of one of the He-111s. 27 bombs! Wow, never knew it could take this many. Checked the Web and it seems the He-111 could take 32 x SC50 110lb bombs. Thirty-two bombs in the internal bay of a medium bomber. Beastly!

That's Audi, not Heinkel. I assume the allied medium could take a similar amount of small bombs (or more)

A 110lb bomb is good for light targets or ground support, but not so much for heavier targets. It was nowhere near as effective as a B-29 and never could be. German AF was designed from the bottom up to be ground support. That was its limitation and weakness. Could not effectively operate in a strategic role.

I keep reading that the B-17s could carry a load of up to 8,000 pounds. Extended range was 4,500 pounds. Why is it in this game the B-17 can only carry at most 4,000 pounds? And can't it carry more in War in the West?

Almost all He-111 footage I have memorized from my early childhood involves bombs tumbling funnily when being dropped. You dont see that in horizontally-loaded bombers.
